JOB DESCRIPTION:
Reporting to the Chief Executive Officer, the Community Volunteer Corps (CVC) Coordinator will oversee an Ontario Trillium Foundation (OTF)-funded project aimed at enhancing capacity-building and sustainability for the United Way of Thunder Bay and multiple community organizations. This initiative involves creating a Community Volunteer Corps to connect, engage, and mobilize volunteers of all ages and backgrounds, fostering meaningful community participation. This is a 12 month contracted position.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Program Coordination:
– Coordinate the program with input from local nonprofits and network partners.
– Engage with community groups to identify the needs and interests of various volunteer segments (e.g., students, young professionals, seniors).
– Conduct outreach to build a database of organizations interested in sharing opportunities through the CVC platform.
Online Community Volunteer Hub:
– Manage a user-friendly volunteer registration platform to capture information such as interests, skills, and availability.
– Coordinate a matching system to connect volunteers with appropriate opportunities across organizations and events.
– Develop a recognition and reward system (e.g., badges or perks) to celebrate volunteers’ contributions based on their hours and impact.
Program Activities:
– Lead recruitment efforts through community events, fairs, and online campaigns.
– Develop and deliver volunteer onboarding and training programs.
– Create and facilitate a poverty awareness workshop for volunteers to build empathy and understanding of community needs.
– Organize affinity groups and networking events, such as Youth United, GenNext, Retire United, Workplace Ambassadors, and Leaders of the Way.
– Establish a board leadership program, including matching and shadowing opportunities.
– Plan and execute a community-wide Day of Caring to engage students, families, workplace volunteers, and seniors in service projects.
– Support volunteer requirements of various United Way fundraising and community engagement events/activities.
Project Management:
– Oversee and manage project budget in compliance with OTF guidelines.
– Collect data and information for final report to OTF.
– Collect, analyze, collate, and disseminate project insights to benefit community organizations across Ontario.
JOB QUALIFICATIONS:
– A post-secondary education in a related field and/or appropriate experience is desirable.
– Teamwork and collaboration.
– Excellent interpersonal skills.
– Excellent verbal and written communications skills.
– Advanced knowledge of appropriate computer technology.
– Knowledge of diverse communities.
– Use of a vehicle and a valid driver’s licence
OTHER CONSIDERATIONS:
– Candidate must be 18 years of age or older and legally eligible to work in Canada.
– Candidate must provide proof of full vaccination against COVID-19 upon acceptance of employment.
– Candidate must provide clear criminal records check upon acceptance of employment.
