Township of Manitouwadge

The Township of Manitouwadge is located in the heart of the Boreal forest with the Canadian Shield as our backdrop. Located in Northern Ontario, halfway between Sault Ste. Marie and Thunder Bay, the community is a location for year-round outdoor adventure.

The Township is currently seeking a permanent full time Mechanic in our Public Works Department. Reporting directly to the Public Works Supervisor, this is a unionized position consisting of 40 hours per week with the potential for overtime, especially during winter months.

The successful candidate will perform:
• short term and long-term maintenance, repairs and overhauls to all mechanical stationary and mobile equipment;
• operate heavy construction, earthmoving and road clearing equipment to perform seasonal repairs and maintenance;
• provide a variety of maintenance and repair services as they relate to municipal fleet and equipment;
• follow all safety procedures, legislation and Township policies and procedures.
Candidates who demonstrate skills and knowledge in the following areas will be considered:
• Ability to repair a variety of equipment including but not limited to: dump trucks, garbage trucks, loaders, backhoes, snow plows, grader, etc.;
• Ability to perform brake, safety, and preventive maintenance inspections;
• Knowledge of proper mechanical/vehicle maintenance;
• Ability to read and interpret wiring/hydraulic diagrams;
• Good conflict resolution and customer service skills;
• Excellent computer skills (both regular desktop applications and equipment diagnostic tools)

Required Certifications and or Health and Safety Requirements:
• Completion of Grade 12 with valid OSSD or equivalent (College diploma preferred);
• Valid Truck and Coach 310T License/Heavy Equipment Technician;
• Three (3) to five (5) years’ experience in Truck and Coach/Heavy Duty Equipment repair, and previous Municipal experience would be an asset;
• Valid First Aid and CPR Certification is considered an asset;
• Valid G license and willing to obtain DZ;
• Confined space entry, common core municipal pit/quarry workers and surface miners certification would all be considered assets.

The Township offers a competitive benefits package with a starting wage of $32.54 per hour as per the current Collective Agreement wage schedule. A full job description is available upon request.
