GENERAL JOB DESCRIPTION

The Modular Designer converts designs into technical plans. Designer’s responsibilities include creating drawings and specifications, calculating material and equipment requirements, and setting up production methods. They should have hands-on experience with Building Information Modeling (BIM) software and be familiar with building processes.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Liaise with architects and engineers to gather product and structural requirements and designs.
  • Calculate dimensions, weight limitations and requirements in materials.
  • Describe production methods step-by-step (including equipment and software types to be used).
  • Create detailed designs with Building Information Modeling (BIM) software.
  • Design diagrams, maps, and layouts to illustrate workflow.
  • Prepare and review rough sketches and reviews them with supervisor and/or designate as directed.
  • Identify potential operational issues and redesign products to improve functionality.
  • Ensure final designs comply with regulations and quality standards.
  • Create manuals that describe existing products’ operation, features, and maintenance.
  • Keep you supervisor abreast of your progress and reporting any job-related issues.
  • Other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS FOR THE JOB

Education:

  • Degree in Engineering, Architecture, or diploma of the same disciplines from a technical college.
  • Additional certification with Building Code Identification Number (BCIN) is an asset.

Experience:

  • Minimum one-year proven work experience as a Drafter or similar role
  • Hands-on experience with Building Information Modeling (BIM) software. Revit experience is an asset.
  • Experienced with design programing of CNC software and equipment is an asset.
