GENERAL JOB DESCRIPTION

The HVAC Technician Team Lead is responsible for overseeing and managing the HVAC installation, maintenance, and repair activities within our facility. Their technical expertise and leadership ensure the efficient operation of HVAC systems and the delivery of high-quality modular buildings. They have vast experience in designing and installing air quality equipment.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Lead and supervise a team of HVAC technicians in the installation, maintenance, and repair of heating, ventilation, and air conditioning systems in buildings.
  • Accountable and responsible for team deliverables.
  • Plan and direct the work of assigned team.
  • Provides clear directions to team members on work tasks and performance expectations.
  • Provides ongoing evaluation of skills of each team member, as well as constructive feedback and encouragement.
  • Develop and implement skills development plan for each team member.
  • Ensures team members produce quality output striving for zero deficiencies.
  • Establishes performance expectations for team and each team member.
  • Ensures team’s work stays on schedule.
  • Collaborates and coordinates with Managers, Production Coordinator and Team
  • Leads to facilitate optimal work environment and workflow.
  • Keeps Production Coordinator apprised of risks and challenges impeding team’s ability to achieve work schedule, and/or scheduled on-line and off-line dates.
  • Assesses team’s need for materials, tools, equipment, etc. and provides related written requests to Production Coordinator for management consideration.
  • Collaborate with the Production Coordinator to plan and schedule HVAC tasks based on production timelines and project requirements.
  • Provides opportunities for apprenticeship to employees where appropriate in consultation with Human Resource Manager.
  • Establishes performance standards for apprentices ensuring development of highly competent employees.
  • Collaborates with the Production Coordinator and Managers in development and implementation of continuous improvements in all aspects of company performance and deliverables.
  • Interpret HVAC schematics, blueprints, and technical specifications for accurate system installations.
  • Coordinate the layout and installation of HVAC ducts, equipment, and components to ensure proper functionality and compliance with building codes.
  • Perform hands-on HVAC work, including installation, troubleshooting, repairs, and system testing.
  • Conduct quality control checks to verify the efficiency and functionality of HVAC systems.
  • Train and mentor team members, providing technical guidance and safety protocols.
  • Monitor and manage the inventory of HVAC materials, tools, and supplies.
  • Collaborate with other trade teams (e.g., electricians, plumbers) to ensure seamless integration of HVAC systems.
  • Address and resolve technical challenges, deviations, or issues that arise during the HVAC installation process.
  • Maintain a safe work environment and ensure compliance with safety standards and protocols.
  • Keep you supervisor abreast of your progress and reporting any job-related issues.
  • Maintain good housekeeping practices.
  • Ensure quality standard performance.
  • Other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS FOR THE JOB

Education:

  • Gas Technician G2 License
  • High School diploma or equivalent.

Experience:

  • Proven work experience as a Residential HVAC Technician or similar role.
  • Minimal 5 years of experience as an HVAC technician, preferably in a construction or industrial setting.
  • Proven experience in a leadership or supervisory role, showcasing the ability to lead and coordinate a team.

  • Strong knowledge of HVAC systems, equipment, codes, regulations, and industry best practices.
  • Proficiency in reading and interpreting HVAC schematics, blueprints, and technical drawings.

  • Effective communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Familiarity with building automation systems and controls.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to interpret technical data such as temperature and pressure.
  • Ability to operate and repair various HVAC equipment.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment.
  • Aptitude in using various hand tools (screwdrivers, hammers etc.) and precision measurement tools.
  • Ability to follow established procedures and practices and read instructions.
  • Exceptional attention to detail and commitment to quality workmanship.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively.
  • A strong commitment to all health and safety guidelines.
  • Strong work ethic and dedication to meeting deadlines.
  • Proficient in using HVAC tools and equipment.
  • Competent under the Ontario Health and Safety Act.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

  • Ability to stand, walk, and perform HVAC tasks for extended periods.
  • Manual dexterity and coordination for precise HVAC work.
  • Ability to lift and carry moderately heavy objects as required.
  • Ability to work in various environmental conditions, including exposure to noise and manufacturing processes.
  • Very good physical strength and stamina.
