Associated Health Director

Position Summary:

The Associated Health Director is responsible for planning, evaluating and collaborating with the Health Director. Decision making support for programming and special projects, as well as supporting Tribal Council and community-level health planning. Administers the compilation of reports that will assist the Health Director with service planning, project updates, performance indicators, budget analysis and accountability and representation on Health matters Partners and Stakeholders.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Participate in staffing, training, directing and motivating employees.
  • Research and gather information for the revision of job descriptions, salary rates and the latest trends in recruitment and retention.
  • Promote employee and community-based professional development initiatives.
  • Actively participate in learning opportunities.
  • Assess and develop departmental training plans.
  • Oversee the analysis of data collection and information sharing.
  • Oversee the preparation of reports and presentations for Senior Management, Partners, and Stakeholders.
  • Research and prepare presentations on Tribal Council Health Program – wellness promotion, addictions, community health, mental health, youth & recreation.
  • Drafting internal and external correspondence. Developing summary documents for the distribution to team members.
  • Advocate and stand for the Tribal Council and Member Communities.
  • Provide guidance to staff involved in department services and programs.
  • Organize projects aimed at improving health systems through health care innovation, collaborative approaches, and interdisciplinary teams.
  • Exercise professional judgement and initiative while undertaking all responsibilities and developing relationships.
  • In the absence of the Health Director, fulfill essential services to meet the needs of the Health programs.
  • Deployment to support Crisis Response activities as required.
  • Other duties as required.

Qualifications:

  • Seven (7) years experience administering First Nations social, health and wellness programs or an equivalent combination of training and experience.
  • Good working knowledge in computer applications including Microsoft Office, Data Base Operations.
  • Excellent organizational skills, professionalism, and time management skills.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Strong interpersonal skills with co-workers, communities, and candidates.
  • Ability to work independently and take initiative.
  • Ability to travel to remote and isolated member communities and job fairs in urban areas.
  • Member with Certification of the First Nations Health Manager Association.
  • Ability to communicate effectively in one of the dialects of the Treaty 5 and/or 9 Territories.
  • Person of First Nation ancestry will be given preference (OHRC, Part II, Special Employment).
  • Knowledgeable and understanding of the Social Determinants of Health in First Nation Remote and Isolated Communities.

 

Salary Range: $73,000 to $79,000 plus benefits
