WAHSA EMPLOYMENT OPPORTUNITY

Wahsa Distance Education Centre is operated by the Northern Nishnawbe Education Council (NNEC) under the direction of District Area Chiefs and First Nation communities.  Wahsa provides secondary education services to northern communities across the Sioux Lookout District by SMARTBoard/Bridget software and Independent Learning courses. Wahsa develops, delivers, and co-ordinates courses, training and support services in consultation with participating First Nations. Students receive instruction, instructional packages, tutoring, and academic and personal counseling through local and central support systems.

NNEC invites applications for the following position at the Wahsa Distance Education Centre in Sioux Lookout Ontario:

WAHSA EDUCATION COUNSELLOR
QUALIFICATIONS:

1.      A post-secondary degree/diploma in counselling, education or a related field AND two years counselling experience OR the equivalent of five years education/career counselling experience

2.      Familiarity with the concepts of Distance Education delivery systems and Wahsa programming

3.      Must have an understanding of the secondary graduation requirements in order to promote student success

4.      Familiarity with Sioux Lookout District First Nations communities, their education needs and issues

5.      Ability to use computer databases and word processing software, familiarity with office procedures and administrative systems

6.      Fluency in written and oral English; oral fluency in Oji-Cree, Ojibwe or Cree an asset

7.      Available and willing to travel to communities as necessary

SALARY: Based on Education and Experience
