NNEC is a non-profit educational organization. Under the direction of the Sioux Lookout District Chiefs, NNEC delivers secondary and post-secondary education programs and services for First Nations people.  NNEC operates Pelican Falls First Nations High School, Pelican Falls Centre, Pelican Falls Wellness Centre, Dennis Franklin Cromarty High School, Wahsa Distance Education Centre and has offices in Lac Seul (head office), Sioux Lookout and Thunder Bay.  NNEC welcomes applications for the following positions:

HOUSE PARENTS, PELICAN FALLS CENTRE (PFC), Sioux Lookout

Pelican Falls Centre and Pelican Falls First Nations High School are located on approximately 10 acres of land which is home to 180 students from our northern First Nation communities throughout the school year.  The House Parent will be responsible for supervising and caring for ten to twelve students attending the Pelican Falls First Nations High School and living at one of the Centres.  This will include cooking, cleaning and providing support to the students while living away from their home communities.  This position will report to the PFC Manager and/or designate.  This position will have a modified work schedule (4 shifts on – 4 shifts off) through the school calendar, salary will be prorated over the full year (26 pay periods).

QUALIFICATIONS

·        Minimum Grade 12 education.

·        Experience working in the education field, with Indigenous youth would be considered an asset.

·        Thorough knowledge, understanding and sensitivity to Indigenous traditions, culture and values is mandatory.

·        Must have a valid Ontario driver licence, and be willing to obtain a Class “E” or “B” in order to assist with student transportation.

·        Fluency in Oji-Cree, Ojibwe, or Cree is an asset.

·        Excellent communication skills both verbal and written.

·        A cooperative attitude when working with PFFNHS staff, students and public.

·        Must be self-motivated, organized and able to work both as a team member and/or independently.

SALARY: Based on Education and Experience
