Position Overview/Summary:

Reporting to the Executive Director, the Communications Specialist will play a key role in supporting the Foundation’s marketing, communications, and community engagement efforts. With the Foundation ramping up to launch a historic capital campaign to support major diagnostic imaging equipment enhancements at LWDH. This is an exciting time for a creative, dynamic, organized, and collaborative individual, with experience creating persuasive communications and a solid knowledge of traditional and digital communications, to join the team.

Responsibilities (including but not limited to):

– Collaborate with the Foundation Team and external stakeholders to execute the marketing and communications plan for the capital campaign
– Support with the planning, design, writing, production, and distribution of a wide range of key internal and external communications pieces, including print newsletters, direct mail, e-newsletters, website and social media content
– Create engaging multimedia, video, and visually captivating on-brand content for the Foundation’s social media and digital communications platforms (i.e., website, e-newsletter)
– Stay abreast of changing technologies and social media platforms to effectively leverage LWDH Foundation’s programs, events, and campaign messaging and advise on new opportunities for the Foundation to expand its reach and explore additional platforms
– Support photography/videography needs of the Foundation and the campaign
– In conjunction with the Executive Director of the Foundation, regularly review analytics to see how the Foundation’s content is performing and use data to advise on content planning and/or new opportunities to grow and better engage audiences
– Support the printing and production of key communications materials (posters, billboards, vinyl wraps etc.)
– Effectively manage time to accomplish competing priorities over varying timelines, demonstrating excellence in prioritization and problem solving
– Assist with media relations activities of the Foundation by drafting media releases and supporting materials as needed
– Collaborate with LWDH and community partners on cross-promotional activities
– Assist in promotions, as well as coordination and execution on an as needed basis, of key events, including fundraisers, community engagement, and campaign-specific initiatives
– Perform additional duties as assigned
– Occasionally requires working extended and non-standard hours, including weekends and evenings

Experience and Qualifications:

– 2-4 years of recent hands-on and well-rounded experience in a marketing and/or communications, community engagement, or public relations role
– Post-secondary degree or diploma in a communications field (English, Journalism, Mass Communications, Public Relations Professional Writing, Digital Communications, Marketing)
– A passion for storytelling to inspire action for the greater good
– Demonstrated experience in assembling and analyzing information, prioritizing, drafting, collaborating, and editing
– Valid driver’s license, clear driving record and access to a vehicle

Assets:

– Attention to detail and absolute commitment to accuracy
– Excellent persuasive written and verbal communication skills
– Demonstrated experience successfully managing complex communications projects from planning through to execution
– Comfortable with social media platforms (LinkedIn, Instagram, Facebook), websites, e-mail marketing platforms (MailChimp) and other technologies required in a fast-paced, hybrid working environment
– Demonstrated experience using Canva, comfort using Adobe Photoshop, Illustrator and/or InDesign a strong asset
– Experience leading or significantly contributing to a website redevelopment project is considered an asset
– Working knowledge and proficiency with Microsoft Office 365 and WordPress
– Experience in the non-profit/fundraising sector
– Ability to manage competing priorities and projects in a dynamic environment to problem-solve and achieve goals
– Ability to effectively interact with donors, volunteers, staff and the general public in a professional and courteous manner
– Effective and collaborative team player, sharing information freely, working in a team to achieve overall goals
– Exemplary interpersonal skills; and adept at building positive, professional relationships

Employment Requirements

Successful applicants are required to provide a satisfactory vulnerable sector criminal reference check, that was completed less than one year from the date of hire. This requirement must be met within the first sixty (60) days of employment.

Additionally, to the above, successful applicants are also required to complete the Health Care Worker Health review process which includes providing an up-to-date immunization record to ensure compliance with the Ontario Hospital Association Communicable Diseases Surveillance Protocols within the first thirty (30) days of employment.

A hybrid working arrangement may be considered, however, the successful incumbent should expect the role to have an in-person component. The Communications Specialist may also be required to attend campaign-specific events within Kenora, Ontario and the surrounding area throughout the course of their role. Furthermore, we are a scent-free environment. When attending the hospital kindly refrain from wearing strongly scented fragrances.
