With forward-thinking and engaged employees, we deliver Ontario Works, Social Housing, Early Learning and Child Care, and Land Ambulance to current and future clients.

We are currently seeking to hire a temporary, full-time Shelter Attendant for the summer in our Red Lake, Ontario Shelter.  Our employees enjoy a healthy work environment, development opportunities, and an opportunity to make a difference in the lives of others.

Reporting to the Shelter Attendant In-Charge, the Shelter Attendant provides programming assistance and clerical support with the daily operations of the KDSB’s Red Lake Area Emergency Shelter (RLAES). This includes assisting with meal preparation to support shelter patrons and community members with food insecurity.

Successful applicants will be able to:

  • Communicate effectively with staff, clients, and the general public.
  • Work independently and as part of a team to complete assigned tasks.
  • Assist with the implementation of daily client programming.
  • Use computers and various software, specifically Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Maintain a high level of confidentiality and handle sensitive information.

Qualifications will include:

  • Ontario Secondary School Diploma or equivalent.
  • Enrolment in post-secondary studies, preferably in a related field such as Social Services.
  • A satisfactory Criminal Record Check.
  • Experience and/or familiarity with completing the above tasks is beneficial.

To be considered for this position, you must be between 18 and 30 years of age at the start of employment and be a Canadian Citizen, a permanent resident or a person on whom refugee protection has been conferred under the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act [S.C. 2001, c. 27] *.

The hourly wage range for this position is $19.84 – $21.05 (wage subject to funding availability and whether the successful candidates are returning students).
