Situated along the Trans-Canada Highway between the neighbouring city centres of Winnipeg and Thunder Bay, the District of Kenora comprises several communities in Northwestern Ontario, offering an unparalleled experience in nature. With its main administration office in Dryden and other office locations and ambulance bases across the District, the Kenora District Services Board (KDSB) is the integrated service delivery agency dedicated to improving everyday lives through early learning and care, housing, paramedic, and social services.
We are currently seeking to hire a System Support Technician to join our Administration team. The location is open to the district. Our employees enjoy a healthy work environment, development opportunities, and the chance to make a positive impact in the lives of others.
Reporting to the System Support Manager, the System Support Technician will provide information technology support, maintenance of systems and assistance.
Key responsibilities include:
- Provide advanced technical support, diagnosing and resolving complex technical problems. Document work performed and solutions implemented.
- Advanced support contact point, triage helpdesk tickets, and resolve issues related to end-user software, hardware, and configuration, escalating issues as appropriate.
- Provide support and communicate across the organization via phone, instant message, SMS, email, video message, remote desktop, and travel to satellite offices in the District as needed.
- Perform onboarding, offboarding and end user change management, including account management, equipment provisioning/decommissioning and initial training.
- Install, maintain, support and upgrade computer hardware, software, operating systems, and network infrastructure.
- Analyse recurring issues and perform regular testing to identify potential areas for improvement and ensure optimal performance and reliability.
- Evaluate solutions and implement approved changes to improve system performance and reduce outages.
- Assist in addressing end-user requests relating to the building, upgrading, installation and configuration of IT systems.
- Carrying out preventative maintenance and general administrative tasks relating to desktop services, procurement, and remote assistance.
- Create and maintain end-user IT training material, document IT processes, inventory and system configurations.
- Aid in the preparation of IT procedures and implementing policies and procedures to support the information technology infrastructure.
- Ensure that appropriate backup and disaster recovery processes are completed as required to ensure business continuity.
- Assist in the design and implementation of strategies to enhance the organization’s IT infrastructure and helpdesk support functions. Work closely with third-party service providers in implementing projects and troubleshooting issues.
Successful candidates will have:
- Excellent analytical and troubleshooting skills.
- Highly proficient in Windows PC and server management, including but not limited to OS installations, updates, maintenance, configuration of Active Directory, Group Policies, security, file and print services.
- Excellent working knowledge of Microsoft 365, Azure and Exchange Online administration and configuration.
- Basic knowledge and understanding of MS SQL.
- Understanding of internetworking (IP routing and packet filtering, layer-2 switching, WAN fundamentals).
- Demonstrated knowledge of Cisco routers and switches, including troubleshooting and configuration.
- Demonstrated understanding of internet services and network administration (firewalls, proxy servers, VPN, TCP/IP, DNS, SMTP).
- Understanding of cybersecurity best practices and the importance of data protection.
- Strong organizational, communication, and time management skills.
- Ability to work with multiple priorities and deadlines independently and as part of a team.
Qualifications will include:
- Requires a post-secondary diploma/degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, or a related field from a recognized educational institution.
- Minimum of four (4) years of relevant work experience.
- Proven experience with MS Group Policy, PowerShell, scripting and automated software deployment.
- Experience with Network Management platforms.
- Valid Ontario Class G driver’s license (or equivalent).
- Satisfactory Criminal Background Check.
- Industry certifications from CompTIA or Microsoft are an asset.
Along with an excellent benefits package and participation in the OMERS pension plan, we offer a salary ranging from $77,152.86 – $88,534.68 per annum.
