Independent First Nations Alliance (IFNA)

Under the direct supervision of the Wellness Manager, the Wellness Worker plays an important role in providing after-hours emergency mental health and wellness support to IFNA secondary students. The On-Call Worker will perform a diverse range of duties, ensuring prompt response and assistance during critical situations and contributing to the health and safety of our students.

Responsibilities:
1. Availability:
• Be on standby. Your availability is key! Respond promptly during all shifts to offer immediate support.
2. Counselling and Support Services:
• Provide counselling and support services to IFNA students in one-on-one counselling situations or in groups as needed.
• Completion of suicide risk assessments with the development and implementation of student safety plans.
3. Crisis Management and Intervention:
• Provide immediate crisis intervention and support to youth in distress, including implementing appropriate safety measures and collaborating with emergency services, as needed.
4. Emergency Response:
• Supervise and assist in emergency situations. Facilitate timely transportation of students, offering advocacy and supervision during hospital stays.
5. Operational Support and Supervision:
• Implement effective operational/administrative policies and procedures specific to IFNA SSSP, including communication with stakeholders.
• Supervision of students both in emergency and non-emergency situations.
6. Community Engagement:
• Travel to IFNA communities as needed for student supervision and support.

Note: Flexibility is key at IFNA. You may occasionally cover tasks outside your role ensuring comprehensive support for our organizations mission.

Position Requirements:
Post-Secondary education in Social Work, Psychology, Social Services, Drugs and Alcohol, Human Services, or other applicable fields is considered an asset.
• Minimum 2 years of related experience working with Indigenous youth in a counselling or support capacity or a similar environment.
• ASIST; Mental Health First Aid; Non-Violent Crisis Intervention; Standard First Aid certifications or willing to obtain.
• Valid driver’s license G with clear driving abstract and access to a reliable vehicle (if required for travel within the community or for program activities)
• Must maintain a Vulnerable Sector Criminal Records Check.
• Must maintain First Aid and CPR certification.
• Understanding of Indigenous history, traditions, and beliefs with the ability to implement cultural values and practices within the delivery of services; proficiency in an Indigenous dialect is an asset.
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills to engage effectively with youth, families, and community members.
• Capacity to handle crisis situations with empathy and composure and confidentiality.
• This role requires emotional resilience to provide compassionate support to Indigenous youth facing mental health challenges and trauma.

Salary: $25 – $35/ hourly
Schedule: Ability to work when called. This may include evenings, weekends, and holidays. Travel between sites throughout the year.
