The Independent First Nations Alliance (IFNA) is seeking a dedicated Youth Wellness Counsellor to join our Education – Wellness Services team in Sioux Lookout. Your Impact: As a Youth Wellness Counsellor, you’ll be at the heart of our mission, providing culturally sensitive counselling to Indigenous youth aged 12 to 24. You’ll help address mental health issues, emotional distress, trauma, and social concerns. By incorporating evidence-based therapeutic approaches and Indigenous healing practices, you’ll empower these individuals to thrive, fostering resilience, self-determination, and growth.

Responsibilities:
• Individual Counselling: Offering personalized support through one-on-one sessions.
• Group Facilitation: Organizing workshops on cultural identity, coping skills, and more.
• Crisis Intervention: Providing immediate support and collaborating with emergency services.
• Cultural Competency: Bringing a deep understanding of Indigenous cultures and traditions to your counselling approach.
• Community Collaboration: Building strong relationships with communities and stakeholders for wraparound support.
• Prevention and Education: Developing and delivering educational initiatives to raise mental health awareness.

Position Requirements:
• College diploma in the field of Social Services Worker and Mental Health Addictions or university degree in related field.
• Certification and licensure as a professional counsellor or therapist.

Experience working with Indigenous youth in a counselling or support capacity, demonstrating cultural competency and sensitivity.
• Familiarity of Indigenous communities and organizations; experience working for an Indigenous organization.
• Ability to maintain a clear Vulnerable Sector Criminal Records Check.
• First Aid and CPR certification are an asset
• Valid driver’s license and access to a reliable vehicle (if required for travel within the community or for program activities).
• May be required to work evenings, weekends, and holidays to meet the needs of the department and organization.
• On-call duties are required

Note: Flexibility is key at IFNA. You may occasionally cover tasks outside your role, ensuring comprehensive support for our organization’s mission.

Salary: $55,000 – $65,000/ annually
Schedule: Shift work. Ability to work when called. This may include evenings, weekends, and holidays. Travel between sites throughout the year.
