Reporting to the Maintenance Superintendent, the Heavy-Duty Mechanic is responsible for various maintenance activities common to a surface hard rock mining operation and the associated blasting, loading, hauling, and support equipment, including surface drills.  As this is a start-up position, the successful candidate may also be required to assist with other mine related activities as needed.


The Magino Project is currently in pre-production with key construction milestones achieved. The first gold pour is scheduled in Q2 2023.  Located in northern Ontario, Canada, 88 kms northeast of Wawa and approximately 14 kms southeast of the town of Dubreuilville, this site contains a historical underground gold mine, and tailings management facility (“TMF”). Argonaut Gold conducted a Feasibility Study in 2017 that examined mining the deposit using conventional open pit mining methods and extraction of gold from the ore using a 10,000 tonnes per day carbon-in-pulp (“CIP”) mineral processing facility. Once commissioning has been completed, the Magino mine will produce approximately 150,000 ounces of gold per year during the first five years of production. The project has over a 15-year mine production life.


  • Inspect equipment for proper performance, identify faults and malfunctions.
  • Adjust equipment & repair / replace defective parts, components, or systems according to the scope of work.
  • Test repaired equipment to ensure proper operational performance and commissioning of new equipment.
  • Actively participate in continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Complete accurate time records, technical reports, failure reports, and parts lists. Staying current with industry and technical best practices and requirements.
  • Identify and report any unsafe work habits, workplace incidents and/or near misses.
  • Perform risk assessments prior to each task.
  • Maintain hand tools and equipment to ensure safe operation.
  • Maintain an orderly work area and ensure housekeeping requirements are met.


  • Red Seal Heavy Equipment Technician or equivalent with at least 5 years related experience with mining equipment (surface) including drills.
  • Previous experience with Sandvik, Komatsu and/or Caterpillar equipment.
  • Excellent proficiency in reading hydraulic and electrical schematics.
  • Demonstrated ability to diagnose, troubleshoot, and repair electrical and mechanical issues with mining equipment.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Valid driver’s license


  • The role is located at the Magino Mine, which is approximately 88 kilometres northeast of Wawa, Ontario, Canada.
  • The ideal candidate for the role will work a rotation of 7 days on and 7 days off or 14 days on and 14 days off.
