Job Summary:
For three (3) days a week the Health & Wellness Driver will provide clean, safe, and reliable medical transportation for the community members of the Biigtigong Nishnaabeg. The Health & Wellness driver will abide by all policies and procedures governing this program and conduct him/herself in a professional manner.
For two (2) days a week the Food Sovereignty Program Coordinator will be responsible for organization and promoting programming within the community, which highlights Indigenous food Sovereignty and food security.

Preferrable Skills & Qualifications:
The ideal candidate will meet or exceed the following qualifications. The list of qualifications will be used to develop a screening tool. It is the responsibility of the candidate to communicate their expertise and experience in identified areas.

  • Grade 12 Diploma or equivalent
  • Knowledge of the Highway Traffic Act
  • Clear understanding of policies and procedures that outline behaviours to promote client safety
  • First Aid and CPR Certificate • Clean Criminal Reference Check & Vulnerable Persons Sector Check
  • A Valid Class “G” Driver’s License
  • Strong understanding of First Nation, Métis, and Inuit peoples, communities, and culture
  • Outstanding interpersonal and relationship-building skills
  • Background in program development and implementation, with strong strategic thinking and ability to implement programs
  • Ability to work independently, and as part of a team, exercising good judgement in determining when to take initiative and when to consult others
  • Excellent oral and written communication and listening skills
  • High level computer systems proficiency, particularly in Microsoft

Summary of Duties & Responsibilities:
Vehicle Upkeep and Assisting Clients

  • Ensure all certification and licensing are renewed and present proof to the Health Director once a year.
  • Obey all rules of the road, speed limits and safety regulations.
  • Scheduling of appointments for clients and be available for arranging transportation
  • Assist the elderly, blind and disabled passengers to and from the vehicle.
  • Responsible for scheduling annual safety checks for medical vehicles.
  • Responsible for attention to client safety by addressing client safety on a regular basis in community newsletters and Health’s monthly staff meetings and Accreditation meetings.
  • Regularly participate in the Accreditation process and is aware of Health & Wellness role as it pertains to ongoing quality improvement and Accreditation.

Coordination of Food Security Programming

  • Work with the Diabetes coordinator to manage and take care of Biigtigong Community Garden and Greenhouse at The Health Centre
  • Organize programming and community events to promote First Nations Food Sovereignty, Food Security and Food preservation.
  • Research & Develop new Food programming within the community to promote healthy, sustainable living
  • Cooking demonstrations with harvested food
  • Programming with clients/ groups with utilization of the land for harvesting
