Front-Line Support Worker

First Step Women’s Shelter is seeking a Full-Time Front-Line Support Worker (Permanent Position).  The Front-Line Support Worker is required to work 12-hour shifts with 4 days on, and 4 days off rotation (6am-6pm and 6pm-6am), which includes day and night shifts.

SALARY $ 58,968.00 annually (including a full benefit package, 3 weeks vacations, self care days, wellness day and more)

RESPONSIBILITIES:

·         Answer and respond to the crisis call and business line.

·         To ensure the care and safety of all shelter residents.  This includes the responsibility to provide the resident with the information and support that she requires in order to make her own, independent decisions and choices in a non-judgmental, non-denominating setting.

Closing Date:  Open till filled

·         To co-ordinate and supervise in-house activities, prepare meals and housekeeping duties.

·         To complete all admissions, handle referrals and discharge of residents including all required documentation.

·         Provide effective service and assistance to callers accessing the crisis line and be able to meet the needs of in-house residents, and advocate on behalf of the resident as required.

QUALIFICATIONS:

·         Genuine interest in, and awareness of, issues surrounding victims of crime and       violence.

·         Willing to train if you’re interested in working with families fleeing violence.

·         Cross-cultural awareness and sensitivity.

·         Experience working with women who have been abused.

·         Excellent communications skills both verbally and written.

·        Experience and knowledge in crisis intervention.

·      Completion of a degree or diploma in the human services field would be an asset.
