Shelter Shift Supervisors

Sioux Lookout Emergency Shelter

Sioux Lookout Emergency Shelter is currently accepting applications

                        for Full-Time & Part-Time Shift Supervisors.

RESPONSIBILITIES

·           Responsible for delivering and overseeing the daily operations of the Emergency Shelter.

·           Ensure safety and security of all patrons during shift, including interpersonal safety and security of the shelter

·           Assist and complete staff orientation for all new employees.

·           Oversee, encourage, coach, and mentor staff.

·           Complete onsite quality assurance; monthly fire, health and safety inspections and review with the Program Manager.

·           Review and ensure weekly shelter records are complete and accurate and attach proper documentation to support reporting requirements under the Homelessness Prevention Program, By-Name List and Inspections.

·           Prepare and distribute patron/tenant letters as required in consultation with the Program Manager and/or Executive Director. (such as suspension of service or warnings).

·           Maintain open communication with patrons/tenants and staff through daily interactions.

·           Ensure the Program Manager and Executive Director are kept up to date with the program’s progress, activities, and challenges.

·           Monitor and supervise the shelter and patrons, assist patrons of the shelter with needs, questions and maintain shelter order in accordance with Sioux Lookout Emergency Shelter Policies

·           Ensure completion of shift responsibilities by the Shelter Support Workers.

·           Ability to work a schedule which includes regular on-call rotation for emergencies, and crisis situations

QUALIFICATIONS:

·           Experience working with homelessness, vulnerable populations, and understanding poverty, addiction, mental health, and harm reduction.

·           Experience in supervision of staff, Human Resource experience an asset.

·           Personal qualities of empathy, understanding, and patience

·           Good interpersonal communication and relationship building skills

·           Ability to communicate professionally with community agencies

·           Cultural competence for diverse populations

·           Ability to manage conflict and crisis situations

·           Ability to work independently as well as in a team environment

·           Or an equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to successfully perform the essential duties of the job.
