Job Summary:
Working within the Social Services team that delivers cultural programming, supports language revitalization and primarily works with Indigenous Elders & Seniors in accessing services and supports, the Elder Support Worker will report to the Director of Social Services. The Elder Support Worker will maintain positive relationships with local Elders and Seniors to develop weekly and monthly programs working with community partners and facilitators, maintain contact lists and track daily statistics. This role assists in building strong relationships and partnerships to meet the needs of our Elders.

Qualifications:
➢ Post-secondary education in the field of Social Services
➢ Experience working with Indigenous Elders and seniors.
➢ Recent experience working in social services, health care and/or education.
➢ A valid Driver’s License and use of privately owned vehicle.
➢ Must maintain professional standards and confidentiality with respect to families and work
➢ Must be reliable and self-motivated

Duties & Responsibilities:
As the Elder Support Worker, duties include but are not limited to:
➢ Builds strong relationships and partnerships with frontline workers and professionals within Social Services, local Indigenous agencies and First Nations in the area, and local services in the health, education and social sector who support Indigenous Elders & Seniors.
➢ Maintain strong relationships with local Elders and Seniors and support Elder advisory.
➢ Supports and connects departments with Elders & Seniors who are interested in volunteer work within the community.
➢ Will provide one on one support and group support when necessary.
➢ Advocacy at appointments when required.
➢ Program planning: maintain monthly program calendars, event posters, booking spaces, calendar invites.
➢ Develop responsive weekly and monthly programs working with community partners and facilitators.
➢ Maintain contact lists and track daily statistics.
➢ Assist in building strong relationships and partnerships to meet the needs of Elders.
➢ Must maintain professional standards and confidentiality with respect to families and work.
➢ Assist with ongoing planning to include elders and seniors in community events or initiatives.
➢ Individual visits in Long-term care, Manor or elder homes.
