Dougall Media, Thunder Bay’s only locally owned broadcast/multimedia company, has an exciting opportunity in our Engineering Department, as a Television Studio Coordinator in Training.

This position will involve coordinating and directing all live and recorded events done in the television studios for Dougall Media. The successful candidate will establish proper training protocols for the studio and equipment used by studio and production personnel with the creation of policies, processes, and workflows.

Responsibilities include:

  • Coordinate with the news, production, and promotions departments on the daily scheduling for television studio events.
  • Setup and prepare studios for live events and ingested shows.
  • Technical directing of live events and ingested shows.
  • Report through Operational Reports any erroneous issues or faults with studio production equipment, or elements in live shows.
  • Coordinate in creating the resolution report for warranted departments.
  • Coordinate, prepare and finalize procedures, processes, and workflow documentation in regard to the Operations and Production areas.
  • Facilitate staff training of studio and production procedures, and equipment use.
  • Ensure that studio procedures are adhered to by studio personnel.

Requirements for this position:

  • Diploma or Certificate from a Post Secondary Institute in Broadcasting, Multimedia, or Film.
  • Good understanding of studio production and equipment involved.
  • Good knowledge of routing switcher, audio boards, camera systems, and lighting equipment.
  • Good leadership and communication skills.
  • Be able to work under pressure and adjust to last minute changes in scheduling and personnel changes.
  • Good understanding of production formats used in studio production, particularly live events.
  • Technical understanding of studio lighting design and how it’s used in TV studio production.
  • Knowledge of audio levels and quality of sound in accordance with live television broadcasts.
  • Good knowledge of computer programs used in live communications such as Zoom, Skype, and Teams, and how they will be used in live broadcast situations.
  • Ability to adjust to shifting schedules in accordance with live broadcasting schedules.
