Dougall Media, Thunder Bay’s only locally owned broadcast/multimedia company, has an exciting opportunity in our Programming Department, as a Junior Television Producer.

As a Junior TV Producer, you will assist in the production of television programming primarily including documentaries and features, from conception to completion. Working under guidance, you will contribute to researching, planning, securing funding, and executing film projects. This role requires a blend of creative thinking, organizational skills, and a passion for storytelling through visual media.

Responsibilities include:

  • Research and development – research potential documentary topics and collaborate with senior producers;
  • Pre-production logistics – securing locations, coordinating interviews, tracking and reporting on budgets;
  • Production and post-production – assisting on-location, equipment setup, permissions and releases have been obtained, contribute to editing process;
  • Administrative tasks – organize project files including documentation, release forms, production notes, and other administrative duties as needed;
  • Any other duties that will primarily align with the goals and objectives of television programming.

Requirements for this position:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Film, Television Production, Journalism, or related field.
  • Previous experience in television production, preferably in a documentary or factual programming environment.
  • Strong research skills with the ability to uncover compelling stories and factual information.
  • Proficiency in video editing software (e.g., Adobe Premiere Pro, Final Cut Pro, AVID, Black Magic).
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively as part of a team.
  • Strong attention to detail and organizational abilities, with the ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously.
  • Flexibility to adapt to changing priorities and deadlines in a fast-paced production environment.
  • Knowledge of legal and ethical considerations related to documentary production, including rights clearance and copyright law.
  • Understanding of the various funding and granting organizations in Canada.
  • Live in Thunder Bay or plan to relocate.
  • A passion for storytelling and a genuine interest in documentary filmmaking.
  • Willingness to work irregular hours, including evenings and weekends, to accommodate production schedules.
  • Ability to travel for on-location shoots as required.
  • Familiarity with industry-standard camera equipment and techniques is a plus.
  • Ability to lift/carry 40lbs.
  • Valid G Drivers’ License.
