The purpose of this position is to oversee the development, implementation, and management of the company’s Health & Safety systems to ensure regulatory compliance and achieve continual improvement. This involves developing, recommending, and implementing programs to maintain safe and healthy working conditions; promoting maximum protection against accidents, occupational health hazards, fire and damage to company property and equipment; coordinating policies and programs relating to safety, occupational health, security, and loss prevention.

Duties/Responsibilities
• Evaluate the workplace environment and develop safety-management practices that identify and define the safety responsibilities of all employees. Implement measures to help protect workers from potentially hazardous work methods, processes, or materials.
• Investigate cause of accidents, injuries, or work-related illnesses to determine root cause and develop corrective actions to minimize or prevent recurrence. Prepare Accident/Incident Reports, WSIB Forms, and conduct/enforce any required Disciplinary Action for safety violations.
• Provide orientation training of all new hires, as well as recertification training of all employees as required.
• Coordinate and standardize paperwork for regulatory bodies.
• Lead the site Health & Safety Committee providing effective and responsive Health & Safety support to Operations, including conducting monthly meetings and reporting results/findings of such meetings.
• Ensure all documentation (Policies/Procedures/Forms/Bills of Lading/Work Instructions) are prepared and updated in line with all Regulatory guidelines and promote full compliance to all Health & Safety regulatory requirements.
• Conduct and document regular safety and environmental audits to ensure compliance with safety rules, procedures, and OSHA regulations.
• Attend training and conferences to remain compliant and current with legislation as required.
• Perform other related duties as assigned.

Job Requirements
• Post-secondary Education in Occupational Health and Safety or related program considered an asset.
• Minimum 3 years of practical Health & Safety experience an asset.
• Experience with Train the Trainer, CVOR, First Aid, JH&S Level 1, MTO Book 7 Traffic Management, Surface Miner Common Core considered an asset.
• Experience with PowerPoint and Excel.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including public speaking and presentation.
• A valid driver’s license with own method of transportation required
• Available for emergency calls evenings and weekends as required.
• Must live within a maximum of 30 minutes driving distance from Marathon.
