Job Summary:
The Human Resources Advisor Apprentice plays a supportive role in the Human Resources department of the Sioux Lookout First Nations Health Authority (SLFNHA). The Human Resources Advisor Apprentice will assist with recruitment, basic HR functions, administrative functions and benchmarking functions for continuous organizational improvement. In addition to keeping current with all applicable laws and regulations, this role requires the individual to adhere to all established policies and procedures of SLFNHA. The Human Resources Advisor Apprentice will have excellent communication skills and will maintain positive relationships between the management team and employees. There is an opportunity for growth and development in learning key HR roles and functions.
Note: The intent of the “Apprentice” role is to gain experience and educational development to advance to other permanent HR positions. These positions will be for a maximum of one-year term with the hopeful evolution to an HR Advisor role. i.e. no longer an Apprentice or term
Qualifications:
•Persons of First Nations ancestry (OHRC, Part II, Special Employment)
•Completed High School or Post-Secondary education and experience that is deemed acceptable toSLFNHA.
•Interest and willingness to engage in further Human Resources education.
•One-three years related experience in the field of health and/or organizational Human Resources,business/administration and/or client service setting is an asset.
•Ability to work with all levels of staff (independently or part of a team) internally/externally and buildrelationships with stakeholders.
•Excellent client service skills with the ability to earn and retain client confidence.
•Proficient written and oral communication skills.
•Strong computer skills: Word-processing and knowledge of Microsoft Word.
•Knowledge of one of the First Nations dialects within the Sioux Lookout Region is a definite asset.
•Knowledge and experience related to First Nations and corporate governance including the First Nationspolitical environment and background is an asset.
•Knowledge of provincial legislation standards and guidelines as they relate to the Human Resourcesprocess (e.g. human rights code, employment standards, etc.).
•Ability to perform the duties of the position on a regular basis.
Roles and Responsibilities:
•Support various HR generalist activities, including administrative tasks, recruitment, onboarding, HR reporting, creation and maintenance of HR databases, and health and safety functions.
•Assist with job descriptions, job postings, advertising, interview questions, interview schedule and referencechecking.
•Assist in interviewing job candidates and drafting job offers.
•Assist with new staff orientation.
•Support the HR team to ensure that deadlines are met and identify areas for improvement.
•Assist with benchmarking and measuring the effectiveness of HR processes.
•Assist with maintaining positive working relationships with employees and the management team.
•Aware of legislation such as the Ontario Human Rights Code and Ontario Employment Standards Act.
•Exercise care and caution in protecting confidential and sensitive information.
•Knowledge of compensation structures for both managerial and non-managerial employees.
•Understanding of current pay structure.
•Support best practices in compensation, benefits, retention and recruitment.
•Other duties may be assigned as required.
