Carpenter Journeyman Position Description ($37.06/h for 50 h/week)


The Carpenter Journeyman will be responsible for completing a variety of tasks involving general carpentry, finish carpentry, framing, concrete formwork, and other tasks as needed to assist in completion of residential construction jobs.

Job Description

Key Responsibilities

  • Read and interpret blueprints, drawings, and sketches to determine specifications and calculate requirements
  • Prepare layouts in conformance to building codes, using measuring tools
  • Measure, cut, shape, assemble, and join materials made of wood, wood substitutes, lightweight steel, and other materials
  • Build foundations, install floor beams, lay subflooring, and erect walls and roof systems
  • Fit and install trim items, such as doors, stairs, moulding, and hardware
  • Maintain, repair, and renovate residences and wooden structures
  • Supervise apprentices and other construction workers
  • May prepare cost estimates for clients

Job Requirements


  • Journeyman Carpenter – completion of carpentry apprentice program
  • Completion of High School
  • Trade certification and/or Red Seal Certification

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required

  • Ability to learn quickly
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment
  • Highly motivated and team oriented
  • Ability to communicate clearly and concisely in both oral and written form
  • Work in a safe and responsible manner
  • Valid driver’s license

Physical Requirements

(Seldom: Not Daily, Rare: 0-5% of shift, Occasional: 6-33% of shift, Frequent: 34-66% of shift, Constant: 66-100% of shift)

  • Frequent lifting
  • Constant hand coordination, gripping
  • Frequent standing, bending
  • Working in harsh weather conditions
