Position Title: Pediatric Nurse

Location: Thunder Bay or Sioux Lookout (With travel to communities)

Position Type: Full-Time Term until August 2026

Start Date: ASAP

Reporting to: IFNA Clinical Manager

Responsibilities:

  • Assists and provides education, assessment, screening, and referral to Indigenous families with children 0-18 years old and expectant and new parents regarding pregnancy, healthy child development, providing a safe and nurturing environment, parenting, daily living skills, and cultural teachings and traditions.
  • Performs comprehensive physical assessments of pediatric patients.
  • Administers medications and immunizations to pediatric patients.
  • Assists in performing and interpreting various diagnostic tests and screenings, monitors pediatric patients’ condition, and assesses and dresses wounds.
  • Responds to pediatric emergencies, including cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR), airway management, and stabilization until the healthcare team arrives.
  • Plans, schedules, and manages community pediatric clinics.
  • Engages with community members, leaders, and organizations to identify health needs and develop community-focused initiatives, such as health promotion campaigns.
  • Works with local service delivery agencies to provide referrals to various services, including healthcare, housing, child welfare, and food security.
  • Utilizes telehealth and virtual care technologies to provide remote consultations, health monitoring, and follow-up care for Indigenous children in areas with limited access to healthcare.
  • Maintains accurate electronic health records, documenting assessments, interventions, medications, and patient responses to treatment.
  • Supports on-call emergency operations such as evacuation support and disease outbreaks.

Position Requirements:

  • Baccalaureate Degree in Nursing, BScN. with current Registration in good standing with the Ontario College of Nurses, with no restrictions
  • Experience in Pediatrics setting with a sound knowledge of normal/abnormal child development
  • Previous experience providing pediatric nursing care services in rural or remote areas with limited resources (asset)
  • Current Basic Life Support (BLS) Certificate.
  • Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) certificate (asset)
  • Clear Criminal Background and Vulnerable Sector Check
  • Strong assessment, diagnostic, critical thinking and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to work autonomously and collaboratively within interdisciplinary teams.
  • Flexibility and adaptability to work in remote and challenging environments with limited resources.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills
  • Ability to maintain a high level of confidentiality when handling sensitive information.
  • Proficiency in using virtual care technologies and electronic health record systems.
  • Valid driver’s license G, clear driving abstract, and access to a vehicle required.
  • Up-to-date vaccinations or valid medical exemption
  • Ability to travel to IFNA communities via vehicle or small aircraft
  • A good understanding of the culture and the language is a definite asset.
  • Familiarity of Indigenous communities and organizations; experience working for an Indigenous organization.

Salary Range: starting at $52.75/hour

Schedule: Regular hours from Monday to Friday with weekends, overtime and on-call availability.
