Wataynikaneyap Power PM Inc., a wholly owned subsidiary of FortisOntario Inc., acts as the Project Manager of Wataynikaneyap Power LP (“Wataynikaneyap Power”). Wataynikaneyap Power is a licensed transmission entity, majority-owned by a partnership of 24 First Nation communities in partnership with Fortis Inc. and other private investors. The partnership is an unprecedented undertaking and has constructed 1,800 kilometres of 230 kV, 115 kV, and 44 kV transmission lines and over 22 substations in northwestern Ontario. Located near Thunder Bay in our Fort William First Nation, ON office, Wataynikaneyap Power is currently recruiting for a talented: IT Systems Administrator (Full-Time Permanent Position)

Reporting to the Supervisor, IT Infrastructure & Security, this position will provide technology-related products and services to staff and contractors at Wataynikaneyap Power PM Inc. and other FortisOntario operating subsidiaries. This position will provide service-desk support for all hardware equipment and software applications, perform and maintain data backup and recovery procedures, and assist with setup, configuration and maintenance of client-side IT systems.  The successful candidate will support and maintain cybersecurity controls, ensuring the confidentiality, integrity and availability of the data residing on or transmitted to/from/through enterprise-class products and services.  The successful candidate will also maintain and support local and wide area network (LAN/WAN) devices including, but not limited to: installation, configuration, maintenance, performance, and upgrades where applicable.  This position is part of a dynamic organization and will require effective problem solving, adaptability, and time management.  Willingness and ability to learn and evolve with Wataynikaneyap Power while providing a commitment to cybersecurity, customer service, and the safety of co-workers, the public, oneself and the environment is necessary to succeed in this exciting role.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  •    Post-secondary education in an Information Technology-related discipline.
  •    Minimum 3-5 years’ of help-desk support experience.
  •    Must maintain generalized certifications related to IT foundation-level knowledge (i.e. CompTIA A+ or similar).
  •    Demonstrated hands-on knowledge of hardware and peripheral components.
  •    Must have excellent customer service, organization, and time management skills.
  •    Strong interpersonal and communication skills (both verbal and written) and can easily liaise and interact with all types of personalities while maintaining professionalism.
  •    Candidates who speak/understand Anishinaabe or Anishininiimowin and/or have meaningful experience working with/for First Nation communities in Northwestern Ontario (preferred).
  •    Must have a valid Ontario “G” driver’s license and maintain a clean driver’s abstract.
  •    Ability to travel within Ontario.
