POSITION SUMMARY

Reporting directly to the Assistant Finance Manager, the Finance Supervisor is responsible for leading and directing a team of Finance/Payroll Clerks in the daily operations of the Finance and/or Payroll Department.  The Finance Supervisor is also responsible for maintaining financial, accounting, administrative and personnel services in order to meet Organizational requirements and support operations.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Post Secondary education in the field of accounting,
  • Knowledge and/or experience of the Canada Labour Code – Section III and/or Employment Standards Act
  • Should have two years of supervisory experience.
  • Ability to work independently and is self-motivated.
  • Strong organizational, administrative and supervisory skills.
  • Must have excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Ability to converse in Ojibway and/or Cree would be an asset but not mandatory
  • Must have a valid driver’s license.
  • Must be able to travel as requested.
  • Must be able to pass criminal records check prior to employment
  • Must be aware of the cultural environment in which Tikinagan Child and Family Services operates.
  • Must be able to meet strict deadlines.
  • Must be able to analyze and report financial and statistical Information on a timely basis
  • Must be responsible and have the ability to encourage people and improve system and manual work flow processes

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Informs the Assistant Finance Manager of issues which affect the operations of the Finance and/or Payroll Unit.
  • Ensures that Organizational policies and procedures are implemented and adhered to, ensuring efficient and accurate operations.
  • Provide leadership and supervision to designated finance/payroll staff and analyzes the workplace situation to create means to increase employee efficiency in consultation with the Finance Manager.
  • Ensures that all financial reporting obligations are met in relation to submissions for funding, for grant aid, for contracts and any other initiatives.
  • Supervises and audits all payables and receivables accounting functions ensuring correct account and output distribution and ensures all support documentation is accurate and in order.
  • Supervises and audits all payroll related entries on a biweekly basis as well as providing back up support
  • Ensures all payroll related reports are completed on a biweekly basis.
  • Ensures all timesheets are submitted and calculated according to individual contracts and ensures data entry to payroll program.
  • Coordinates the work of others on projects and assigns work to and assists less experienced finance/payroll staff.
  • Works cooperatively with outside resources as directed.
  • Performs regular performance evaluations of designated finance/payroll staff members.
  • Performs other duties as assigned by the Finance Manager.
  • Ensures confidentiality when required.
