Job Summary:

The Ward Clerk performs a range of clerical duties to update and organize information on the nursing units. The Ward Clerk is responsible for efficient information flow and availability of information.

Qualifications:

  • Minimum Grade 12 or GED required.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (Outlook, Word, Excel, Teams).
    Office skills and knowledge required.
  • Medical terminology and/or previous experience an asset.
  • Ability to comprehend written and spoken direction and act on such in a logical and timely manner.
  • Ability to greet and assist patients, families and visitors in a professional and courteous manner.
  • Must have excellent interpersonal communication and organizational skills.
  • Must be reliable and conscientious.
  • Professional and discreet in handling confidential information.
  • Aligned with SLMHC values; compassion, respect, quality and teamwork.

Job Duties:

  • Acts as a resource to clinical leads.
  • Answer telephone, relay messages and responds to inquires from staff, patients and outside organizations.
  • Maintain confidentiality.
  • Prepare and manage patients’ charts, while maintaining accurate and up to date records.
  • Photocopying, faxing, and filing as required.
  • Handling and delivery of mail as required.
    Rotations assigned are twelve (12) hours.
  • Other duties as assigned.
  • Must adhere to organizational policies and procedures concerning cleaning, hand hygiene and the use of Personal Protective Equipment in support of Infection Control measures, and attend training when necessary.
  • Meditech data entry.

Salary:  $25.41 – $27.48, in accordance with the CUPE Collective Agreement.
