Registered Early Childhood Educator

Under the direct supervision of the RECE Supervisor, the Registered Early Childhood Educator and Childcare Assistant are responsible for planning & implementing programming which reflects the philosophy of How Does Learning Happen, the core foundations of Aboriginal Head Start and Shkoday mission and values to Indigenous children (18 to 72 months) and their families.

Major Responsibilities:

  • Supports learning & development by ensuring the delivery of high-quality experiences that encourage children’s exploration, play and inquiry.
  • Provides children with a safe and supportive environment that is culturally relevant and culturally appropriate.
  • Creates an environment that is responsive to parents and caregiver’s questions or concerns about child development, and share information about parenting, nutrition, play and inquiry-based learning.
  • Builds self-esteem and creates empowerment to children and their families.

Qualifications:

  • Early Childhood Education Diploma or provincially recognized equivalent (RECE).
  • Knowledge of Anishinaabe Culture and traditions and experience working with Indigenous persons.
  • Ability to speak an Indigenous language (Ojibwe, Oji-Cree, Cree, Michif, etc.) considered an asset.
  • Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, exciting working environment.

Conditions of Employment:

  • Must be registered, in good standing, with the College of Early Childhood Educators (RECE).
  • Must have a successful Vulnerable Sector Check and valid First Aid/CPR Level “C”.
  • Required to have successfully undergone a tuberculosis skin test and provide Immunization Record.
  • Must pass medical exam.
