Northern Waterworks Inc. provides premium water/wastewater operations to Municipal, First Nation, and corporate clients. We are a high growth company expanding rapidly throughout Ontario, now with divisions in Northwestern and Northeastern Ontario.

The Senior Operator oversees the wastewater treatment plant(s) and collection system(s), ensuring that wastewater is collected and treated to produce an effluent that does not adversely impact the environment or receiving waters. In the absence of the Operations Manager, or when the Operations Manager is otherwise unavailable, the Senior Operator is expected to serve as the Overall Responsible Operator (ORO).

Location: Red Lake

Permanent Full Time: 40-hour work week: 8 hours per day, Monday to Friday, with rotational weekend and statutory holiday on-call responsibilities (24 hours/day)

Hourly Wage Range: $38.50

Knowledge

  • Minimum Requirements: Class II Certification from the Ministry of Environment in two areas: Water Treatment, Wastewater Treatment, Water Distribution, or Wastewater Collection.
  • Experience in water/wastewater system operation, maintenance, sampling, testing, distribution, and collection systems (pipes, mains, manholes, hydrants, lift stations).
  • Knowledge of process inspections, mechanical, electrical, plumbing, heating systems, and building maintenance.
  • Familiarity with relevant legislation.
  • Ability to operate and maintain water/wastewater systems and equipment.
  • Strong independent and team-working abilities.
  • Effective client and team communication skills.
  • Analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making skills.
  • Literacy for reading manuals; effective verbal and listening skills.
  • Computer proficiency (word processing, spreadsheets).
  • Public relations skills.
  • Must hold and maintain a valid DZ driver’s license.

Responsibilities

  • Maintain the integrity and operation of treatment plant systems.
  • Operate and oversee filtering, chemical, and biological treatment processes.
  • Inspect, service, and repair components such as water intakes, pipelines, storage vessels, chemical treatment equipment, control systems, wastewater lift stations, circulation pumps, boilers, heat exchangers, and valves.
  • Prepare work orders for required servicing and repairs.
  • Coordinate and arrange major repairs when necessary.
  • Perform daily inspections of all treatment plant systems to ensure effective operations.
  • Conduct regular inspections of physical facilities, including fulfilling weekend and holiday on-call responsibilities.

Working Conditions

  • Ability to lift weights up to 50 lbs
  • Willingness to undertake long-distance driving as necessary
  • Work environment includes both indoor and outdoor settings
