Youth Outreach Worker

Responsible for implementing all components of the Biwaase’aa programs. These programs provide youth ages 7-13 with activities that promote culture, physical activity, healthy eating & nutrition, positive personal development and literacy & numeracy support.
RESPONSIBILITIES
- Implements programs that are cultural, and have educational, recreational, nutritional, and social components to ensure the goals and objectives of the Biwaase’aa program are met.
- Plans and performs First Nations, Metis and Inuit cultural presentations and sessions in schools and within the community.
- Plans and implements a variety of physical activities which engages students in fun, recreational and life-long learning objectives.
- Supervises youth attending the program. Ensures a safe and respectful atmosphere for all participants.
QUALIFICATIONS
- Diploma/degree in the Community Services field (Child & Youth Worker, Recreation & Leisure, Social Service Worker, etc.) and/or at least two (2) years equivalent working experience.
- Knowledge of Anishnaabe Culture &Traditions with experience working with Indigenous persons is required.
- Demonstrated non-profit organization management/supervisory experience.
- Ability to speak an Indigenous language (Ojibwe), considered an asset.
CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT
- Must have a successful Vulnerable Sector Check and valid First Aid/CPR Level “C”.
- Required to have successfully undergone a tuberculosis skin test and provide immunization record.
- Must pass medical exam.
