HEALTH AND SAFETY ASSISTANT

We are looking for a motivated and organized Health and Safety Assistant to support our Health and Safety department. This position is ideal for someone who is passionate about workplace safety, enjoys working with people, and has strong administrative and communication skills. The successful candidate will assist with safety documentation, training coordination, inspections, incident reporting, and maintaining compliance with company policies and legislative requirements.

Key Responsibilities

  • Assist with maintaining health and safety documentation, records, and files.
  • Coordinate employee orientation and safety training.
  • Help schedule and document workplace inspections and audits.
  • Assist with incident investigations and ensure reports are completed accurately.
  • Maintain training records, certifications, and compliance tracking.
  • Support the Joint Health and Safety Committee (JHSC) by preparing meeting minutes and following up on action items.
  • Assist in developing and updating safe work procedures and policies.
  • Monitor inventory of safety supplies, PPE, and first aid equipment.
  • Enter and maintain information in safety management software.
  • Promote a positive safety culture through regular communication and employee engagement.
  • Perform other administrative and health and safety duties as assigned.


Qualifications

  • Post-secondary education in Occupational Health and Safety, Environmental Health and Safety, Human Resources, Business Administration, or a related field is considered an asset.
  • Health and Safety certifications (such as Working at Heights, WHMIS, or Joint Health and Safety Committee Certification) are considered an asset.
  • Knowledge of the Ontario Occupational Health and Safety Act and applicable regulations is an asset.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook).
  • Experience with safety management software (such as SiteDocs) is considered an asset.
  • Excellent organizational and time management skills.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and handle sensitive information.
  • Valid Class G driver’s licence and willingness to travel to job sites as required.
