Position Overview
The BN Shelter Home Manager provides on-site leadership to ensure safe, culturally grounded, and traumainformed services for women and families in the shelter. Reporting to the Social Services Director, the Manager oversees staff supervision, scheduling, facility operations, and adherence to organizational policies. This role promotes a respectful, supportive environment rooted in Indigenous values, dignity, and empowerment.
Key Responsibilities
• Lead and supervise shelter staff, ensuring consistent, client-centered support.
• Respond to crises and critical incidents as the first point of contact.
• Maintain trauma-informed, culturally safe programming with land-based and traditional practices.
• Oversee scheduling, training, staff development, and performance.
• Ensure shelter safety, facility cleanliness, and compliance with safety procedures.
• Conduct incident reporting, case file reviews, and internal reports.
• Support complex client cases, case conferencing, and cultural programming in collaboration with Elders and Knowledge Keepers.
• Participate in hiring, policy development, program planning, and management meetings.
Qualifications
• Diploma or degree in Social Work, Indigenous Studies, Child & Youth Work, Social Services, or related field.
• 3–5 years’ experience in shelter/residential/social services; 1–2 years in a supervisory role.
• Experience working with Indigenous communities and trauma-informed care.
• Strong crisis intervention, leadership, and conflict-resolution skills.
• Valid Class G driver’s license, First Aid/CPR, and clear Vulnerable Sector Check.
• Ability to register with relevant professional regulatory body.
Skills & Knowledge
• Strong understanding of Indigenous cultures, healing practices, and community realities.
• Knowledge of harm reduction, strength-based practice, and trauma-informed approaches.
• High professionalism, confidentiality, and cultural sensitivity.
• Comfortable with computer-based reporting and communication.
