Located in what’s famously called the “Gateway to Northwest Ontario”, Thunder Bay boasts 150,000 lakes and rivers where epic outdoor adventures begin. We look forward to welcoming a Food Services Supervisor to the Thunder Bay Correctional Centre, where they will oversee the food services operation, producing approximately 500 meals per day. Given this position requires working with and providing direction to inmate helpers, a shift premium will be added to every pay!

About the job
As Supervisor to a small food service team, you can expect to:
• Plan and communicate the full food service program
• Administer the food services budget and manage supply requisition
• Inspect, operate, and maintain industrial kitchen equipment
• Provide supervision and training to staff and inmate helpers
• Ensure adherence to proper food preparation standards
• Maintain accurate logs, records, and inventory
• Ensure prompt response to food service and safety issues

What you bring to the team

Mandatory requirements
• You have a Journeyman Chef’s Certificate as issued by the Ministry of Colleges and Universities, or sufficient acceptable experience in volume cooking.

Specialized Knowledge and Experience
You have knowledge and experience with:
• Volume cooking methods and procedures, food safety practices, menu planning, food costing, nutrition
• Proper preparation and sanitation techniques
• Various diets (i.e. lifestyle, medical, religious)
• Compliance with health and safety legislative and organizational standards and maintain the safety/security of the work area

Supervisory and Group Leadership Experience
You are able to:
• Oversee a large-scale food service administration
• Coordinate work schedules, evaluate performance, and support a team environment
• Forecast supply requirements, order supplies, maintain inventory and maintain cost controls
• Instruct, train, and provide direction to staff and inmate helpers

Other Skills
You have:
• Problem-solving skills in order to ensure compliance with standards of food preparation, storage techniques and sanitation
• Basic knowledge of computers to input and track data, record equipment problems, and order supplies and equipment
