First General is currently seeking dynamic and talented individuals to join its team in the following roles:

                                                                       LEAD CARPENTER

Job Type: Full Time
Job Location: Thunder Bay
Salary: Competitive compensation based on skills and experience

Primary Focus:

Lead a team of carpenters and labourers on site to complete specific projects while maintaining the highest level of health and safety standards.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Ensure all health and safety standards are maintained by all employees on site, ensuring legislative compliance.
  • Supervise and provide direction to all employees on site.
  • Provide carpentry expertise for all aspects of a project.
  • Ensure all employees are complying with all company policies, procedures and guidelines.
  • Act as company liaison for on site customer relations issues while representing the company in a professional manner.
  • Ensure all employees are adequately trained to fulfill all aspects of their positions.
  • Mentor field staff with planning and executing work on the job sites; as well as being available to answer questions about the work being performed
  • Ensure that work is being performed safely and in accordance with the project schedule
  • Work under time constraints to meet specific timelines
  • Ensure attention to detail and keen sense of safeguarding other people’s property and information
  • Strong verbal communication skills.
  • Ensure good housekeeping practices are established and followed on the work site to create a safe, organized and efficient workplace.
  • Proactively communicate job site conditions and concerns that may or are affecting completion of the job (and schedule) to the appropriate person.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications:

  • Possess a Journeyman Trade Certificate in the Carpentry trade or equivalent combination of training and experience.
  • Minimum three years of field experience
  • Previous supervisory experience would be considered an asset.
  • Possess hands-on experience in working with carpentry materials and tools
  • Physically capable of meeting the requirements of the position.
  • Valid Drivers License
