The Township of Conmee is seeking a Summer Student – Recreation Program Leader to support and facilitate drop-in outdoor recreation activities at the Conmee Community Centre playground during the summer season. This position is funded through the Canada Summer Jobs Program. Applicants must meet all eligibility requirements of the program.

Position Details

Department: Administration (Community Programming)

Employment Type: Temporary, full‑time

Start Date: Monday, June 29, 2026

End Date: Friday, August 21, 2026 (8-week term)

Hours: Monday to Friday, 9:00 a.m. – 4:00 p.m.

Includes a ½‑hour unpaid lunch break

6.5 paid hours per day/32.5 hours per week

Program Hours: 9:30 a.m. – 3:30 p.m.

Rate of Pay: $17.60 per hour

Position Summary

The Recreation Program Leader facilitates informal, drop-in playground programming by setting up and leading recreational games and activities in a public outdoor setting. The role focuses on encouraging safe, inclusive, and active participation.

One day per week (Wednesdays) will include facilitated drop-in programming for older adults (seniors).

This position follows Township policies and procedures and includes monitoring activity areas for safety and reporting concerns.

This position does not provide childcare, custodial care, or drop-off supervision. Parents and guardians remain responsible for the supervision, behaviour, and care of their children throughout program hours.

Key Responsibilities

Facilitate planned and informal drop‑in playground activities and games

Encourage participation and promote positive, respectful, and inclusive play

Set up, adjust, and take down activity stations and program equipment

Conduct basic visual safety checks of the activity area and equipment prior to use and report concerns to Township staff

Monitor activity areas for safety and respond appropriately to minor issues in accordance with Township procedures

Report injuries, incidents, or safety concerns promptly and accurately

Communicate courteously and professionally with participants, parents/guardians, and Township staff

Maintain a tidy and organized program space

Follow all municipal policies, safety procedures, and supervisory direction

Assist, where appropriate, with Township-led recreation or community activities during regular work hours, as directed

Qualifications

Minimum age: 18 years or older

Secondary school education (completed or in progress)

Current Standard First Aid and CPR certification (required)

The successful candidate will be required to obtain and provide a satisfactory Vulnerable Sector Check prior to the commencement of employment (cost reimbursed by the Township)

Strong communication and interpersonal skills

Reliable, responsible, and safety‑conscious

Access to reliable transportation to the work location is required due to the rural location and lack of public transit service.
