The Township of Conmee is accepting applications for a Summer Student – Public Works Labourer to assist with general municipal maintenance and operations during the summer season. This position is funded through the Canada Summer Jobs program.

Position Details:

Department: Public Works

Employment Type: Temporary, full‑time

Start Date: Monday, June 29, 2026

End Date: Friday, August 21, 2026 (8-week term)

Hours: Monday to Friday, 7:00 a.m. – 2:00 p.m.
Includes a ½‑hour unpaid lunch break
6.5 paid hours per day / 32.5 hours per week

Rate of Pay: $18.60 per hour

Position Summary

The Public Works Labourer provides general labour and maintenance support for Township public works operations. Duties focus on cleanup, materials handling, and assistance with routine public works activities under supervision. The position works under general supervision, with instruction, training, and oversight provided in accordance with Township safety procedures.

Key Responsibilities:

Assist with roadside brushing, debris removal, and cleanup

Assist with litter control and cleanup at municipal properties

Assist with general labour tasks at the Public Works garage and Quonset

Organize tools, materials, and work areas

Operate basic hand tools in accordance with training and Township safety procedures

Assist with litter control and cleanup at the landfill site only when accompanied by Township staff

Follow all safety procedures, PPE requirements, and Township policies

Qualifications:

Minimum age: 17 years or older

Valid Class G Driver’s Licence (required)

Ability to operate Township vehicles, subject to a driving record acceptable to the Township and its insurer

Valid First Aid Certificate (required)

Secondary school education (completed or in progress)

Ability to perform physical outdoor work

Reliable, punctual, and safety‑focused

Working Conditions

Outdoor work in varying weather conditions

Physical labour including lifting, bending, and walking

Use of personal protective equipment
