About the Role

We are seeking a highly organized and motivated Health & Safety Assistant to support our Health & Safety Department. This position combines administrative responsibilities with field-based safety support and is ideal for someone looking to develop their career in occupational health and safety.

The successful candidate will assist with maintaining safety programs, completing documentation, conducting site visits, supporting investigations, coordinating training, and ensuring compliance with company policies and legislative requirements. Similar roles commonly include maintaining records, supporting inspections, coordinating training, assisting with incident investigations, and promoting a positive safety culture.

Key Responsibilities

  • Maintain and organize health and safety documentation, records, and filing systems.
  • Assist with the development and updating of health and safety policies, procedures, and programs.
  • Coordinate employee orientations and training sessions.
  • Track worker certifications, training records, and compliance requirements.
  • Conduct workplace inspections and document findings.
  • Assist with incident and near-miss investigations and corrective action follow-up.
  • Support WSIB claims management and return-to-work programs.
  • Prepare safety reports, meeting minutes, and inspection reports.
  • Assist with Joint Health and Safety Committee (JHSC) activities.
  • Order and maintain safety supplies, PPE, and training materials.
  • Perform site visits to monitor compliance and support supervisors and workers.
  • Assist with audits and regulatory compliance requirements.
  • Provide general administrative support to the Health & Safety team.

Qualifications

  • Experience with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook, Teams).
  • Strong organizational and time-management skills.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Valid Class G driver’s license and reliable transportation.
