Job Summary:

The Clinical Nurse Educator is responsible for coordinating, delivering and evaluating educational and competency-building programs for nursing staff and other clinical team members, in alignment with Sioux Lookout Meno Ya Win Health Centre’s Mission, Vision and Values, the College of Nurses of Ontario Standards of Practice, and evidence-based care. This role supports the translation of knowledge into practice, promotes professional development, mentors nursing staff, and collaborates with interdisciplinary partners to ensure safe, effective, patient-centered care.

Qualifications:

  • Current registration and in good standing as a Registered Nurse with the College of Nurses of Ontario required.
  • Masters of Nursing or Masters of Education an asset.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of evidence-based nursing practice, ability to teach and mentor staff, strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Knowledge and application of adult-learning principles, and ability to develop and deliver educational programs for nursing staff.
  • Minimum five years of nursing experience preferred and one year of teaching experience preferred.
  • Current ACLS/NRP/BCLS certification required.
  • ACLS/PALS /CTAS Instructor preferred.
  • EKG/Dysrhythmia interpretation skills and course an asset.
  • Experience in ER, Maternity, and PACU an asset.
  • Proven communication skills, non-judgmental manner, team player.
  • Good assessment skills and problem-solving skills.
  • Intravenous/venipuncture skills/certification.

Job Duties:

  •  Plan, implement and evaluate orientation, ongoing professional development, and specialty training for new nurses, students and all other allied staff.
  • Assessing staff and students’ educational needs and clinical competency gaps and designing learning interventions accordingly.
  • Acting as a resource and coach for clinical staff in applying best practices, new technologies, quality improvement initiatives and policy/procedure changes.
  • Monitoring the integration of learning into practice, tracking outcomes, supporting continuous improvement, and contributing to quality and safety metrics.
  • Facilitating a supportive learning environment, promoting adult-learning principles, mentorship, and professional growth.
  • Collaborating with managers, educators, inter-professional teams and stakeholders to align education with organizational priorities and regulatory requirements.
  • Supporting change management, adapting educational strategies to evolving clinical environments, and contributing to policy, procedure and practice development by providing culturally safe and respectful care, consistent with hospital policies.
  • Provide in-house clinical educational sessions such as ACLS/BLS/CTAS/PALS/ EKG/Dysrhythmia interpretation.
  • Actively supports SLMHC’s commitment to learning by welcoming new learners, offering guidance and feedback, and demonstrating leadership as a role model and mentor.
  • Must adhere to organizational policies and procedures concerning cleaning, hand hygiene and the use of Personal Protective Equipment in support of Infection Control measures and attend training when necessary.

Salary:   $43.41 – $62.20 in accordance with the ONA Collective Agreement
