Rate of Pay (RN): Hourly $42.644 – $62.274

Position Summary

The Nurse – Northern Clinic will provide direct care to patients within the primary care setting of the Northern Clinic. Patient care will be provided within the scope of practice of a Registered Nurse (RN) or Registered Practical Nurse (RPN) under the CNO regulations for best practice guidelines of the College of Nurses of Ontario (CNO).

Accountability
The Nurse – Northern Clinic is directly accountable to the Manager – Northern Clinic.

Qualifications
•Persons of First Nations ancestry will be given preference (OHRC, Part II, Special Employment)
• Ability to communicate in one of the First Nations dialects of the Sioux Lookout region is an asset.
•Current Registration in good standing, as a Registered Nurse (RN) or Registered Practical Nurse (RPN) with CNO.
•Registered Practical Nursing Diploma or Baccalaureate Degree in Nursing BScN from an accredited University.
•Minimum two years of clinical experience preferred but not required.
•Current cardio-pulmonary resuscitation (BCLS), or willingness to obtain re-certification.
•Ability to communicate in one or more of the Northern First Nation dialects is an asset.
•Proficiency in a Windows environment and working knowledge or experience with patient care databases (EMR, OSCAR and Meditech) an asset.
•Ability to perform the requirements of the role on a regular basis

Roles & Responsibilities
1.Assessment and provision of quality patient care under the CNO Best Practice guidelines and standards.
2.Document all pertinent patient history, treatments, and progress in a timely manner.
3.Provide quality care to all individuals while placing an emphasis on health promotion and disease prevention.
4.Maintain a safe and effective care environment for medical staff and patients.
5.Document effectively and efficiently within the EMR, while maintaining strict confidentially under PHIPPA.
6.Collaborate, and communicate efficiently with the medical team and interdisciplinary staff members to facilitate appropriate provisions of primary care.
7.Maintaining up to date evidence-based practice and ensure best practice guidelines utilized.
8.Participation in self-directed learning to ensure that practice remains relevant, along with continued education whereas possible.
9.Adaptation to the changing environment and supporting patients’ individual health needs.
10.Maintaining adequate inventory of medical supplies, re-ordering and stocking as necessary.
11.Assisting Medial providers (MD/NP) to perform medical procedures.
12.Ability to work independently and to assess/monitor client’s level of care and arrange transfer to other areas as required- urgent/emergency responsiveness.
13.Arrange transportation and accommodations as necessary within the organization (SLFNHA)
14.Performing additional procedures in clinical setting (Catheter care, wound care, staple/suture removal, ECG, Urinalysis)
15.Set-up, and oversight of specialty clinics, and providing one to one Specialist support as needed.
16.Provide ongoing input towards further development of the Northern Clinic practice.
17.Other duties as assigned
