Position Summary
The Supervisor, Health Information Systems (HIS) Operations, at the Sioux Lookout First Nations Health Authority (SLFNHA), is a shared leadership position that supports both SLFNHA and Sioux Lookout Regional Physicians’ Services Inc. (SLRPSI). This role centers on leading, mentoring, and developing the HIS team while overseeing day-to-day operational activities. The Supervisor ensures the efficient operation of health information systems by managing all staff-related responsibilities, including recruitment, performance management, and resource scheduling.

The Supervisor, Health Information Systems, is accountable to the Manager, Health Information Systems
Qualifications
•Post-secondary education in Health Information Management, Health Informatics, Computer Science, or a related discipline is required. A combination of equivalent education and directly relevant experience may be considered. Possession of, or active pursuit of, a CHIM designation is considered a strong asset.
•Minimum of three (3) years of experience in a supervisory or leadership role managing technical or health information teams.
•Minimum of five (5) years of experience in health information technology or a related sector.
•Experience supporting Electronic Medical Records (EMR) systems.
•Candidates with a combination of relevant experience and education recognized by the Sioux Lookout First Nations Health Authority (SLFNHA) are encouraged to apply
•Regulatory Knowledge: Demonstrated understanding of health privacy legislation (e.g., PHIPA or OCAP®) and best practices for safeguarding electronic health information.
•Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
•Excellent time management and organizational skills
•Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, both written and verbal.
•Strong problem-solving and analytical skills.
•Detail-oriented with a high degree of accuracy.
•Ability to perform the requirements of the role on a regular basis
Roles & Responsibilities
•Manage, mentor, and lead the staff of the Health Information Systems team, focusing on professional development and a supportive team culture.
•Conduct annual performance appraisals, providing consistent coaching and constructive feedback to drive staff excellence.
•Lead the full lifecycle of staff recruitment, including interviewing and hiring recommendations in collaboration with HR.
•Oversee employee timecards, manage complex work schedules, and optimize resource allocation.
•Proactively identify training needs and coordinate professional development opportunities for all team members.
•Utilize ServiceDesk to manage and track the lifecycle of incidents and service requests, ensuring timely resolution and accountability.
•Coordinate the daily activities of the HIS team to ensure the reliability and security of managed applications.
•Act as the primary point of escalation for operational issues, coordinating team efforts to resolve service disruptions.
•Maintain comprehensive departmental policies, procedures, and staff activity records to ensure regulatory compliance.
•Partner with other departments to improve user experience with EMR systems (Mustimuhw EMR and OSCAR) and enhance data quality.
•Prepare and present regular status reports on team performance and HIS operations to the HIS Manager.
•Perform any other duties or tasks that may be assigned by the Health Information Systems Manager, consistent with the scope and objectives of the role.
