NNEC is a non-profit educational organization. Under the direction of the Sioux Lookout District Chiefs, NNEC delivers secondary and post-secondary education programs and services for First Nations people.  NNEC operates Pelican Falls First Nations High School, Pelican Falls Centre, Dennis Franklin Cromarty High School, Wahsa Distance Education Centre and has offices in Lac Seul (head office), Sioux Lookout and Thunder Bay.  NNEC welcomes applications for the following positions:

Dennis Franklin Cromarty (DFC) High School requires two full-time Social Workers to support and provide advocacy for students attending DFC.  The Social Worker(s) will interact closely with students (and families) when faced with mental or emotional concerns and work alongside them through those challenges. This position will have a modified work schedule through the school calendar; salary will be prorated over the full year (26 pay periods).

RESPONSIBILITIES:

Support students that are dealing with mental health concerns, trauma, substance misuse, etc.
Evaluate students’ mental, behavioral and emotional health
Provide counselling and assessment services for the students
Develop and implement a plan of care, treatment plan and/or safety plan as required
Work closely with the DFC staff to support student needs and help identify students who are “at risk”
Provide daily or weekly check-ins with students as required
Participate in team meetings as required
Liaise with other organizations, partners and/or professionals for student needs
Make referrals as required (School Nurse, Psychiatrist and other available supports)
Maintain accurate records of student interactions and progress, ensuring compliance with legal standards
Engage students in positive activities to help them improve their overall psychological well-being
Ensure proper communication takes place with the parents/guardians and all stakeholders
Organize and facilitate workshops on healthy relationships, communication, mental health topics, conflict resolution, etc.
Other duties as required
QUALIFICATIONS:   

Bachelor of Social Work Degree (4 year program)
Minimum of 4 years’ experience in Social Work/Mental Health work with youth
Ability to understand and support youth in high-risk situations
Thorough knowledge and understanding of First Nations culture and values
Excellent leadership, motivation, and problem-solving skills
Fluency in Oji-Cree, Cree or Ojibway is an asset
Strong interpersonal skills and ability to work independently
Able to work effectively and collaboratively with others
Strong communication skills
Valid Class “G” Driver’s License
SALARY: $72,800 to $89,535

All staff are compensated 13 weeks of vacation either with vacation days, monetary compensation or a combination of both.
