Career Opportunity – Manager, Finance
White Lake Limited Partnership (WHITE LAKE LP) is seeking a highly motivated and capable individual to fill the newly created full-time position of Manager, Finance.
WHITE LAKE LP is owned by Netmizaaggamig Nishnaabeg and managed by its general partner, White Lake Resources Corporation. The organization is mandated to develop, implement, and manage business opportunities for the benefit of Netmizaaggamig Nishnaabeg and its members.
WHITE LAKE LP operates multiple business lines, including contract labour for area mines, waste management services, heavy-equipment rentals and operations, trucking, and civil and general contracting.
Reporting to the Chief Financial Officer (CFO), the Manager, Finance is responsible for the day-to-day leadership of the finance function, including accounting operations, payroll oversight, financial reporting, budgeting, internal controls, procurement support, audit preparation, and supervision of finance staff.

Supervises: Finance and payroll staff
Status: Full-time, permanent (existing vacancy)
Expected compensation: $90,000 – $100,000 per year
Duties and Responsibilities
Financial Operations and Reporting
• Lead day-to-day accounting operations, including accounts payable, accounts receivable, general ledger, cash receipts, revenue recording, and bank reconciliations;
• Coordinate month-end and year-end close activities and prepare monthly financial statements, supporting schedules, and management reports for CFO review;
• Review journal entries, account reconciliations, transaction coding, and financial records for accuracy, completeness, and appropriate supporting documentation;
• Review accounts receivable and accounts payable aging and coordinate timely follow-up on outstanding balances;
• Ensure bank deposits, remittances, revenue billings, and other financial transactions are recorded accurately and on time.
Cash Flow and Treasury Support
• Monitor cash balances and support short-term cash flow forecasting and the coordination of cash inflows and outflows;
• Prepare and review cheque runs, electronic payment batches, and supporting documentation for CFO approval;
• Maintain appropriate controls and documentation over banking, cash disbursements, and payment processes.
Payroll and Statutory Compliance
• Oversee payroll processing and review payroll calculations, deductions, benefits, and remittances for accuracy, completeness, and timeliness;
• Coordinate the preparation of source deductions, Records of Employment, T4s, WSIB reporting, and related filings for CFO review, approval, and submission where required;
• Maintain payroll records and work with payroll staff or external providers to resolve discrepancies and improve payroll processes.
Procurement and Purchase Order Management
• Oversee the purchase order process and ensure expenditures are properly authorized, documented, and aligned with approved budgets before commitments are made;
• Ensure purchase orders are issued, tracked, matched to invoices and receiving documentation, and closed on a timely basis;
• Work with departmental managers to strengthen compliance with procurement policies, delegated authorities, and budget limits.
Budgeting, Analysis, and Project Reporting
• Coordinate the preparation, monitoring, and reporting of annual operating and capital budgets;
• Prepare budget-to-actual variance analysis and provide clear explanations to the CFO and organizational leadership;
• Support project and job-cost reporting, departmental financial tracking, revenue-sharing invoicing, and management decision-making.
Internal Controls and Process Improvement
• Maintain and improve finance procedures, documentation standards, accounts payable workflows, credit card reporting, and financial information tracking;
• Ensure compliance with internal policies, agreements, delegated authorities, and established financial procedures;
• Maintain appropriate segregation of duties across payroll, accounts payable, banking, and cash disbursement processes;
• Identify control gaps, process inefficiencies, and opportunities to improve the accuracy and timeliness of financial information.
Team Leadership and Organizational Support
• Provide day-to-day supervision, work allocation, training, and support to finance and payroll staff;
• Act as the first point of escalation for operational finance matters and support staff in resolving accounting and process issues;
• Assist the CFO with Board reporting, financial summaries, audit inquiries, special projects, and implementation of finance priorities.
Audit and Compliance
• Coordinate audit preparation, including working papers, reconciliations, schedules, and supporting documentation;
• Liaise with external auditors and support the CFO in responding to audit requests and implementing recommendations.
Skills, Knowledge, and Abilities
• Strong knowledge of full-cycle accounting, month-end close, financial reporting, payroll, reconciliations, and internal controls;
• Ability to review and interpret financial statements, identify issues, and communicate financial information clearly to non-financial managers;
• Experience with accounting and payroll systems such as Adagio, QuickBooks Online, PayDirt, or similar applications;
• Strong Microsoft Excel skills and the ability to organize, analyze, and reconcile large volumes of financial data;
• Sound judgment, attention to detail, problem-solving ability, and the capacity to manage competing deadlines;
• Strong leadership, communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills.
Qualifications
• Diploma or degree in accounting, finance, business administration, or a related field; an equivalent combination of education and relevant experience will be considered;
• A minimum of five years of progressive accounting experience, including responsibility for financial reporting, payroll, reconciliations, and month-end processes;
• Demonstrated experience supervising, leading, or providing day-to-day direction to finance staff;
• A Chartered Professional Accountant (CPA) designation is an asset but is not required;
• Experience in a multi-business, project-based, mining, contracting, or heavy-equipment environment is an asset;
• Experience working with First Nation organizations is an asset.
