Department: Integrated Emergency Services (IES)

Type of Role: Full-Time

Are you passionate about responding to emergency calls such as sudden illness and accidents to provide emergency medical care in various settings such as enroute to medical facilities or in ambulances and healthcare facilities within our IFNA communities? This role requires quick thinking, strong medical knowledge, and the ability to remain calm in high-pressure situations. This role will also have a strong commitment to providing high-quality, compassionate care to patients and align to the values and beliefs of the organization. The role will report to the Chief of Emergency Medical Services.

Responsibilities:

·       Responds to emergency calls and provides immediate medical assistance.

·       Assesses patient conditions, performs initial evaluations, and delivers appropriate treatment based on protocols.

·       Administers medications, starts IVs, and performs advanced procedures as required.

·       Transports patients safely to medical facilities with continuous monitoring and care.

·       Maintains accurate patient records, documenting treatments, medications, and responses.

·       Collaborates with healthcare professionals to ensure coordinated care.

·       Communicates with patients, families, and bystanders to gather medical history and offer reassurance.

·       Adheres to established medical protocols, guidelines, and ethical standards.

·       Maintains and inspects medical equipment and supplies for readiness and safety compliance.

·       Stays updated on medical practices and regulations through ongoing training.

·       Completes other duties, including but not limited to emergency operations (e.g., drone operations, basic firefighting).

·       Participates in Integrated Emergency Services cross-training.

 

Position Requirements:

·       Able to fly into IFNA communities from city hub as identified by IFNA

·       Certification as a Primary Paramedic (Ontario Base Hospital system) required (uncertified candidates may be sponsored).

·       Advanced Emergency Medical Care Assistant (AEMCA) Certification is required.

·       Minimum one year paramedic experience or 1500 hours of verified experience is required.

·       Primary Care Paramedic Graduate Certificate is required.

·       Ministry of Health and Long-Term Care (MOHLTC) Advanced Care Paramedic Certificate is required.

·       Valid CPR BLS (HCP) Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) Certification as an asset.

·       Valid F driver’s license, reliable transportation, and clear driver’s abstract required.

·       Up-to-date immunization records as required by Ministry of Health & IFNA communities.

·       Up-to-date immunization records and N95 Mask Fit Testing.

·       Clear Criminal Record Check, Vulnerable Sector Screening, and Child Abuse Registry check required.

·       Ability to work under pressure and exercise sound judgment in emergency situations.

·       Strong written and verbal communication skills.

·       Knowledge of indigenous Fire and Emergency Services, as well as a good understanding of provincial services and Indigenous Services Canada is an asset.

·       Ability to travel to IFNA communities via small aircraft or emergency vehicles.

·       Familiarity with Indigenous communities, culture, and traditions; ability to incorporate cultural values in service delivery.

·       Ability to speak Ojibwe or Oji-cree is an asset.

Salary Range: $50/hour

Schedule:  12-hour shifts for 14 days on and 14 days off (subject to change). Overtime and being on-call is required.
