Overview
IBEW Local 402 Training and Education Centre is seeking to fill the role of Training Coordinator Assistant to support the curriculum development for the 309A Construction & Maintenance Level 2 Electrician program. This role is ideal for a technically strong Electrical Engineering student, or 2nd year Electrical Engineering Technician/Technologist with a solid foundational knowledge in electrical theory and hands-on electrical principles.
The successful candidate will work with our Training Coordinator to help create, update, and organize course materials, lab activities, assessments, and technical resources.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop and refine lesson materials for 309A modules (theory, labs, code, and technical exercises).
- Assist in building clear, accurate PowerPoints, lab guides, and student worksheets.
Review existing curriculum for accuracy and alignment with Skilled Trades Ontario standards. - Help structure units on electrical theory, electronics, motor control, PLC fundamentals, and CEC application.
- Organize and catalogue training resources, diagrams, shop exercises, and digital files.
- Conduct technical research to support curriculum improvements.
- Prepare materials for upcoming fall training cohorts.
Required Technical Skills & Knowledge
- Applicants must have strong understanding of:
Electrical Theory
- Ohm’s Law, Kirchhoff’s Laws
- Series/parallel circuits
- Power, impedance, reactance
- Single-phase and three-phase systems
- Transformers
- Generators and Motor’s
Canadian Electrical Code Fundamentals
- Basic navigation of the CEC
- Understanding of common sections (rules for conductors, bonding/grounding, branch circuits, motors, etc.)
Electronics
- Basic semiconductor devices (diodes, transistors)
- AC/DC power supplies
- Relays, contactors, solenoids
- Simple troubleshooting concepts
Motor Control
- Control circuits and ladder logic
- Motor starters, contactor/overload operation
- Wiring diagrams and schematic interpretation
- Reversing, jogging, interlocking circuits
PLC Fundamentals
- Basic logic concepts (NO/NC, latching, sequencing)
- Understanding of ladder logic structure
- Inputs/outputs and control integration
(Programming experience is an asset but not required.)
Drawings, Diagrams & Documentation
- Ability to read and interpret electrical schematics, wiring diagrams, and single-line drawings.
Other Required Skills
- Strong written communication and proof-reading skills.
- Comfort using Word, PowerPoint, Excel, and/or Google Workspace.
- Excellent organization and attention to detail.
- Ability to work independently with technical accuracy.
Preferred Assets (Not Mandatory)
- Experience in a shop, lab, or hands-on electrical environment.
- Familiarity with Skilled Trades Ontario apprenticeship standards.
- Experience creating educational materials, labs, or technical documentation.
- Some understanding of instrumentation, fire alarm, or low-voltage systems
