Small Animal Veterinarian (Full-time, Permanent) – NOC 31103

Wage: $127,920 – 135,000/Annually
Hours: 40 hours per week

Language Requirements:
English required. French is an asset (but not mandatory).

Job Duties:
As the Small Animal Veterinarian at Dryden Veterinary Services, you will:

  • Examine, diagnose, and treat illnesses, injuries, and diseases in small animals (dogs, cats, and small mammals).
    Perform surgical procedures including spays, neuters, soft tissue, and dental surgeries.
    Administer vaccines, medications, and preventive treatments.
    Provide emergency and urgent care services as needed.
    Advise clients on animal nutrition, behaviour, and preventive health care.
    Maintain detailed and accurate medical and client records.
    Supervise veterinary technicians and support staff.
    Ensure compliance with provincial veterinary standards and regulations.
    Perform and interpret diagnostic tests such as bloodwork, radiographs, and ultrasounds to determine the nature of illness or injury.
    Implement infection control and biosecurity protocols to protect both animal and public health.
    Report notifiable diseases to public health officials in accordance with regulatory standards.
    Promote animal health within the community through education and outreach initiatives.
    Ensure compliance with veterinary regulations, controlled substance standards, and animal welfare legislation
  • Job Requirements:
    Doctor of Veterinary Medicine (DVM) degree or equivalent from an accredited institution.
    Eligibility (or already licensed) to practise veterinary medicine in Ontario (or will become licensed with the provincial regulatory body).
    Minimum of 1-2 years of experience in a small animal clinical setting preferred.
    Strong diagnostic, surgical and communication skills.
    Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, team-based environment, and to handle physically demanding tasks (standing, lifting, animal restraint).
    Willingness to work occasional evenings, weekends or on-call as part of the clinic schedule.
  • Work Conditions & Physical Capabilities
    Stand and move around the clinic for extended periods.
    Handle animals of various sizes, breeds and temperaments safely.
    Use of surgical/medical equipment and adherence to infection control protocols.
    Occasional lifting of animals or equipment (with assistance when required).
    Flexible schedule to accommodate emergency or urgent cases, including some weekend or evening shifts.
