In-Home Support Worker

Location: Dryden, Ontario
Work setting: Private home
Salary: $22.00 per hour
Hours: Full-time, 30–40 hours per week
Start date: As soon as possible

Job Summary

We are looking for a Home Support Worker to provide companionship and daily living support to an 84-year-old senior living alone in his private home. The goal is to help him remain safe, comfortable, and independent at home by providing companionship, meal preparation, light housekeeping, and transportation to medical appointments.

Main Duties

The Home Support Worker will:

  • Provide companionship and social interaction; offer regular check-ins to monitor general wellbeing.
  • Plan, prepare and serve meals according to preferences and any dietary needs.
  • Perform light housekeeping related to the client’s living areas (tidying, dusting, vacuuming, dishes, garbage, bathroom wipe-down, etc.).
  • Launder clothing and household linens as needed.
  • Accompany and drive the client to and from medical appointments and essential errands (e.g., pharmacy, groceries), ensuring he gets to and from safely.
  • Encourage or assist with light exercise (e.g., short walks) as appropriate.
  • Observe and report any changes in health, mobility, appetite, mood, or home safety concerns to the family/employer.
  • Provide standby personal support (e.g., with bathing, dressing, mobility) if needs increase over time, within the scope of a home support worker.
  • Follow health and safety, infection control, and privacy/confidentiality guidelines at all times.

Requirements, Education & Training

  • Completion of secondary school preferred.
  • Personal Support Worker (PSW), Home Support Worker, or similar caregiver training an asset.
  • Current First Aid and CPR certification (or willingness to obtain).
    Experience providing care or support to seniors or persons with care needs in a home or community setting is an asset.
  • Experience with meal preparation and housekeeping in a residential environment is an asset.
  • Warm, patient, respectful, and reliable.
  • Able to work independently without direct supervision.
  • Good communication skills and ability to observe and report changes.
  • Comfortable supporting an older adult who values dignity and independence.
  • Private home setting; non-smoking environment.
  • Light to moderate physical activity (standing, walking, light lifting, helping with mobility as needed).
  • May include occasional evening or weekend hours based on appointments and needs.
  • Must be able to drive the client to and from appointments and essential errands.
    Valid driver’s licence required; access to a safe, reliable vehicle an asset (or use of employer’s vehicle, if applicable).

Other Information

  • Live-in is not required. If live-in is offered at any point, it would be optional and at no cost to the worker.
