Position Summary: The Human Resources (HR) Specialist supports the delivery of HR services by helping with recruitment, employee and labour relations, disability management, policy updates, and organizational changes. The role provides guidance to staff and managers, ensures HR practices follow laws and collective agreements, and helps resolves workplace issues to support a safe, fair and productive work environment.

Education: Post-secondary degree or diploma in Human Resources Management, Business Administration, Industrial Relations, or a related field is required.

Qualifications:

  • Knowledge of policing services
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office
  • Experience using HRIS systems
  • Knowledge of workplace investigations
  • Knowledge of collective bargaining processes
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to maintain confidentiality at all times
  • Strong communication skills (verbal, written, and interpersonal)
  • Sound judgement and decision-making in moderately complex HR situations
  • Ability to coach and support supervisors on HR matters
  • Analytical ability to interpret data, identify trends, and provide recommendations
  • Conflict resolution and problem-solving skills
  • Must pass Anishinabek Police Service background check and provide satisfactory Criminal Record Check when requested

Experience: 

  • Minimum of 3-5 years of progressive HR experience, including responsibilities beyond administrative tasks
  • Experience in human resources within a policing environment is an asset
  • Experience supporting or advising on: recruitment and staffing, policy interpretation, employee/labour relations issues, disability management and return-to-work coordination
  • Experience working in a unionized environment or exposure to collective agreements
  • Experience participating in workplace investigations (e.g., harassment, conflict, performance issues)
  • Experience supporting WSIB, STD, and LTD claims management
