Job Summary:

Sioux Lookout Meno Ya Win Health Centre is seeking a motivated and reliable Laundry Aide to support the collection, processing, and distribution of hospital linens and residents’ personal clothing. Working as part of the Laundry Services team, the successful candidate will help ensure a safe, clean, and efficient environment while providing excellent service to patients, residents, staff, and visitors. This position involves regular walking, standing, lifting, bending, pushing, and pulling, and requires adherence to infection prevention and workplace safety standards.

Qualifications:

  • Grade 12 diploma or GED preferred.
  • 1 to 2 years of related experience.
  • Ability to communicate effectively in English.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Knowledge of WHMIS and workplace safety practices.
  • Class G Driver’s Licence may be required for some duties.
  • Hospital or healthcare experience is an asset.
  • Strong problem-solving, reliability, punctuality, and customer service skills.
  • Demonstrated cultural sensitivity and professionalism.

Physical Demands:

  • Frequent walking, standing, bending, lifting, pushing, and pulling.
  • Ability to lift up to 30 lbs regularly.
  • Good health and ability to maintain consistent attendance.

Job Duties:

  • Collect, sort, weigh, process, fold, and distribute hospital linens and Extended Care Unit residents’ personal clothing in accordance with established schedules and department procedures.
  • Operate laundry equipment, including washers, dryers, and related machinery, safely and efficiently while following manufacturer guidelines and organizational policies.
  • Load and unload laundry equipment, monitor wash cycles, and ensure linens and clothing are cleaned, processed, and returned in a timely manner.
  • Maintain accurate records related to linen processing and inventory as required.
  • Replenish linen carts and ensure all patient care areas, departments, and resident units have an adequate supply of clean linen.
  • Adhere to infection prevention and control practices, including proper handling of soiled linen, hand hygiene, and the appropriate use of personal protective equipment (PPE).
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work environment by performing routine cleaning of laundry equipment, lint filters, work surfaces, and the laundry department.
  • Follow all workplace health and safety policies, including WHMIS requirements, safe operation of equipment, proper handling of cleaning products, and reporting of hazards or unsafe conditions.
  • Work collaboratively with members of the Laundry, Environmental Services, Nursing, and other departments to support patient care and operational needs.
  • Communicate effectively with patients, residents, visitors, staff, and external partners while maintaining a professional and customer-focused approach.
  • Demonstrate flexibility in responding to changing workloads, operational priorities, and departmental requirements.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned to support the efficient operation of Laundry Services.
