Job Summary:
The Summer Student primarily supports the Strategic Policy, Planning, and Quality team.

The Summer Student will support the development, analysis, communication, and implementation of the SLFNHA strategic, operational, community, and regional planning work. The position will also assist with reviewing, updating, and evaluating the SLFNHA Strategic Plan.

Qualifications:
•Persons of First Nations ancestry will be given preference (OHRC, Part II, Special Employment)
•Ability to communicate in one of the First Nations dialects in the Sioux Lookout Zone is an asset.
•Demonstrated understanding of and competence in serving culturally diverse populations and knowledgeable of First Nations’ people, history, culture, health priorities and social issues
•A student working to achieve a post-secondary education in health policy, public health, public administration, law or a related discipline.
•Must have working knowledge of the political, legislative and regulatory processes impacting First Nations health
•Strong organizational skills and attention to detail, with the ability to prioritize tasks and handle multiple assignments simultaneously.
•Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to interact professionally with individuals at all levels of the organization.
•Proficiency in using office software and applications (e.g., Microsoft Office Suite, calendar management tools, emails).
•Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to work independently with, at times, minimal supervision.
•Must be willing to travel and be flexible with work hours.
•The ability to perform the requirements of the position on a regular basis.

Roles and Responsibilities:
•Research and review provincial and federal government initiatives, legislation, policy and operational plans which affect health services for First Nations
•Monitor and analyze policy trends that may impact First Nations and provide recommendations that inform policy decisions or adapt existing policies to suit changing circumstances.
•Review, monitor, analyze and evaluate strategic plans in order to facilitate discussions on future planning cycles
•Draft correspondence, proposals, policies and briefing notes
•Facilitate, articulate and communicate linkages between government policy directions and First Nations directions
•Identify effective methods of knowledge transfer based on specific targeted audiences
•Explore opportunities for funding through proposals and partnerships with other agencies or health partners
•All other duties as Assigned.
