What will you be doing?

This is an outside job. You will be working as part of a team, Monday-Thursday, 9am-4pm to grow food on an urban farm entering its ninth year of operation. Together we will tend to the needs of the garden and care for the vegetables we plant. Here we learn much of what it takes to grow food, from crop rotation to northern varieties to pest management to harvesting and more! Participants are also tasked with running a weekly on-site produce market, selling the bountiful crops we grow! The SHOW team will also support community partners in various farm and food related tasks.

This is a supportive employment position designed for people who may have had previous challenges with consistent employment. We want to help employees strengthen skills that will ensure they are successful in this position, and any future employment opportunities they have. Offerings include weekly workshops focusing on transferable employment skills, professional development, and personal wellness. We encourage applications from people who have lived experience with housing insecurity, addiction, poverty, and/or mental health concerns and are ready to commit to full-time employment and make a positive change in their lives!

We are looking for people who are:

  • 18-30 years of age with Canadian citizenship or permanent residence
  • able to work outside every day in the fresh air (rain or shine, heat or cold)
  • able to lift 25 pounds, operate handheld tools, and perform daily manual labour tasks
  • willing to learn, grow, and try new things (previous gardening experience is not required)
  • able to work independently and as part of a diverse team
  • not currently employed or in school, this position starts in May and goes until October
  • want to enjoy coming to work
