Science Knowledge Carrier – Thunder Bay
$47,000 – $57,000 per year, full-time permanent, generous benefits package

As the Science Knowledge Carrier – Indigenous Outreach, you will work with the travelling Science North Thunder Bay Outreach team to develop and deliver engaging program experiences in Northern Ontario communities, including many First Nation Communities. Your lived experience and science knowledge will enable you to braid indigenous knowledge and perspectives through the many programs we offer to schools and communities. You will bring knowledge in STEM topics through lived experience with Indigenous world view and/or a traditional STEM degree.
Along the way, you’ll travel to communities and represent Science North to foster reciprocal relationships with community members.
Position Highlights:
- Develop and deliver science experiences with and for First Nation Communities, including remote communities
- Lead the delivery of travelling science experiences throughout Northwestern Ontario at festivals, fairs, and partner locations including visits to schools
- Organize, plan, and coordinate science outreach events
- Use your exceptional interpersonal skills to foster reciprocal relationships with communities throughout Northern Ontario
- Support other programming initiatives within the unit with your unique skill set
- Monitor, evaluate, obtain and act on programming feedback
- Write scripts, signage and content for programs and specialty workshops/shows
- Deliver and oversee the delivery of science programs by others
- Manage and control area expenditures and submit financial reporting
- Compile reports, maintain programming information and other required information
- Liaise, coordinate, support and collaborate with internal and external stakeholders
- Proactively identify needs/issues and problem solve/establish solutions, address complaints/concerns
Qualifications:
- Formal background in a STEM field OR equivalent experience with Indigenous world view or lived experience
- Demonstrated organizational, planning and project management skills
- Superior attention to detail
- Exemplary aptitude for problem-solving and resourcefulness
- Exceptional communication skills, possessing a high level of verbal and written proficiency
- Captivating program development and delivery skills
- Showmanship with an ability to engage crowds (with science shows)
- Comfort with and ability to work independently often from remote locations
- Willingness and ability to travel extensively throughout Northern Ontario, at times solo, including evening and weekend travel/work
- Valid G driver’s license reflecting a 3-year clean driving abstract, non-negotiable
- Fluency in English required

Compensation Highlights:
- Full-time permanent opportunity
- Competitive salary starting at $47,000 to $57,000 per year
